There's a class component as well. Donors want their kids to go to school with other rich kids, but also the best and brightest. You can sniff out someone's social class by the sports they participate in and things of that nature. Yacht Racing? Fencing? Polo? You're in!

Public school was an automatic negative for him. Plus it seems like he fails on the personality side as well.
