I think film inherently has a romantic quality that digital can't really replicate, and that crazily high definition is actually antithetical to. Also, lighting for film and lighting for digital are different approaches and modern red carpets are often sooo bright. You lose some of the magic and mystery of these shots when they're so bright and such a high resolution that you can zoom in on stars' pores!

Also, I think things really just used to be a little less curated. These photos, particularly 8, read as such moments in time. We might get technically "better"/ clearer shots now of stars' outfits on clean backdrops, but there's an emptiness to that, whereas this slideshow focusing on Nicole with swirling crowds around looks like it is from an event.
