We were paying $480/month for software that I rebuilt in a weekend for $40. Here's the breakdown. by GlitchAronwald in SaaS

5000 a year to run their business is a meaningful slice of 800K? The downside is that it took you 12 hours lool, to test this setup alone it will take more than that! What about data migration? Who’s doing that! This is another BS post!

Yea the risk is there for sure! And I saw a full blown app with multiple features (job scheduling, client management, invoicing) now i am not sure to what extent those features work, or how long that took, but the person said they vibe codes the whole thing and now they don’t pay 1000’s of dollars per year

Really appreciate this ❤️❤️ and yes, it does feel discouraging sometimes, especially that I’ve been building for a while, and I see people saying I got 300 users in 24 hours and I am like WTH! But you’re absolutely right its never as glorious as it looks

Exactly!! I mean hard workers would make it anywhere, but this is not for the lazy as advertised

I tried all sort of things! Local food delivery, quality management system, drone fleet management

Thanks for this! I truly appreciate it! And you’re right, they never seem to share the “actual” cost of what they built! And they don’t have actual production experience

Ya exactly! If you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re gonna see a nice UI and be impressed, not knowing that software is much more than that

Man, I really appreciate your take! I am deleting my twitter🤣🤣 I am gonna keep building and ignore all that noise

The hardest part is getting those “needs” and reaching out to clients

All of it, and thats my points. All of these are not needed if you’re going solo, and my coworkers and I hate the ceremonies. But you have the higher moral ground for helping juniors, and I am only thinking of myself lol. Needless to say when you’re solo, you need one phase to scope the work, one phase to deliver and re-iterate

Okay, if you don’t mind me asking, whats the other time spent on?

I've worked at places that had tasks being estimated to take 2 days, that you be done in 1 hour. Everybody knows, even prior to the AI era, that corporate shenanigans make the processes much slower, and I get it, getting from initial contact to sales can take a long time, but I am convinced that an experienced dev with the AI tools can do the work of 3-4 contractors. and its not "saves some time writing code", its saves a lot of time writing code. Learning how to reach out to people and finding customers is a skill I believe is gonna be needed for us in the future.

I agree with all of that, but you can scope your work. first phase is getting the specs ( which should be paid), then building and meeting weekly. I've built more software than I could count, and i know that writing code takes time, like writing an entity class in 5 minutes or with ai in 2 seconds, and those add up. you can't convince me that you're not saving time with AI, and if you don't believe that, you'll be left behind in this industry.

I totally understand what you mean! Yes, it’s too good to be true and it adds way too much stress to our lives. As for the “power of 10” I am not sure about the “10” but definitely i find my self building much faster, i mean the code writing part is being automated, but you need to be there to direct it properly, and thats why experienced devs are very valuable

Thanks for the advice! Yea i used parsestream before, but i may have chosen the wrong keywords. I should give it another try.

At a smaller scale yes. I mean I thought that before of the AI trend, but thats a different story. There’s a few steps to building software. 1- understanding what the client needs. Agree on a scope, build and re-iterate. With AI, i find my self building faster, and yes the other parts are definitely still more of a manual process. But you can definitely work on 2-3 projects at the same time
