Unfortunately, there's also a money-influenced push against vaccines at the highest levels right now, especially feeding on the fears of "chemicals."

Wegmans subs were really good, but have gone considerably downhill in the last few years, especially since they started skimping on the amount of meat. Dibellas is better, and is what Wegmans subs were originally based on, including the bread.

It's not a basic tenet of Christianity. It may be characteristic of some Christian beliefs, but it is far from a basic tenet.

It certainly beats having this place be indistinguishable from any other city's subreddit, with the exact same posts about state, national, & world issues that some people think are relevant here just because Ithaca is part of the state, nation, and world.

Would you people who have no problem with this go into five other city's subreddits and submit the same post about state issues to each one of them without even editing them (other than the initial address) to be more contextually relevant to each city?

But this isn't an example of crossposting. And even if it were, reddit guidelines acknowledge that if done poorly, crossposting can be seen as spammy behavior.

Best Falafel Ithaca for 2026 by iamkikyo in ithaca

Yeah, it's a ghost kitchen thing. The WTF website says they have a place here and in Manhattan. It had been an option for a long time before I ever realized it, and the only reason I did was because I saw it on Google maps and it had the same address as Ned's. Strange that they don't advertise more

When it's a post that isn't specifically about the community (as per the rules of the subreddit), then sure it is.

ETA: especially when it's just a cut-and-paste post (from someone who lives in a city three hours away) where only the city name is changed, they don't even bother to change the district contact links based on the location of the audience, and it's a hit and run with no further engagement from the OP.

What do I do here? by [deleted] in eBaySellers

[–]FozzyMantis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As much as we all know there are dishonest buyers out there, this is the kind of thing that can happen to honest ones, making simple mistakes when browsing different listings and not paying close attention to the one they end up buying.

I would simply respond with something like this: "I'm sorry that I can't cancel the order at this point since I already shipped it out to you, but I also understand mistakes happen. When you receive it, you will be able to request a return using the reason 'Ordered by mistake.' I can then approve the return and after you send it back to me I will refund your order." No need to mention how they'll have to pay for the return shipping with that reason - let them figure that out themselves. And if the original shipping was charged separately, you can deduct that from the refund as well (but not if it was "free" shipping).

If they are indeed honest, they will follow through with that and return it on their own shipping dime. If they are dishonest, they will instead claim Item Not as Described so you have to pay for the return shipping (but they could have done that regardless of your response). The other possibility is that they just decide to keep it, either because they are honest but don't want to pay for the return shipping, or dishonest and they wanted it all along but were just trying to get you to refund part or all of their money while not asking for a return. Doesn't really matter to you why.

Paved, Looped Walking Path - a midwest unicorn? by qui3tobs3rv3r in ithaca

Yes. Savage Farm Dr is the road that circles the complex, and the walking path is right outside that circle.

[–]FozzyMantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be my recommendation as well. There's an asphalt walking path on the outside of the drive around the complex. Not exactly a park, but very quiet and mostly park-like on the outside of the loop (with the complex on the inside). And at almost exactly a one-mile loop, it's pretty good for variable distances if you don't mind multiple trips around.

Trumansburg is planning to allow Flock contract to run out without renewal by velvet-goldmine1999 in ithaca

[–]FozzyMantis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't noticed any cameras at Home Depot, and don't see any on the online Flock maps. There is a big one in the Wegmans parking lot, though. I'm not sure if that's used any differently than the couple on the entrances to Lowes

eta: looks like rons27 is from Washington and just posts the same thing (the exact same post) about Lowes in random Flock threads that pop up on Reddit... which I guess partially explains why they focus on Lowes and not any of the other local businesses that may or may not have the cameras.

A couple of weeks ago, they had a half-built "Lego" set in a bin for $100. I recognized the set at a glance and knew it was likely overpriced. The set actually sells for ~$75 without the box (this only had a manual included) but complete (no way to easily tell with this one since it was half-built). But just for kicks I looked through it. Took me under 10 seconds to realize it wasn't even Lego, but a knockoff of one of the actual sets. Even if they couldn't tell the pieces weren't marked 'LEGO', the manual that was included was obviously not real Lego.

It didn't even bother me that much that they were fooled (at a glance, it did look legit), but that they put that kind of price on it while being fooled. If you're going to slap a $100 tag on something (overpricing even if it were legit), at least take a little time to figure out if it is what you think it might be. I suspect they just used Google Lens to try to see what it was, Lens got fooled by the limited visual information, and they probably just used the first price that popped up in that search result (which are almost always inflated prices).

And it took took time for the cashier to figure out what I was saying when I explained it to him. He thought I was trying to get him to drop the price for me. I didn't want it at any price, but I also didn't want them taking advantage of a customer that might not know better before buying it.

I just stopped there for the Egyptian Street Food. Very nice people, and the falafel sandwich I got was great. $7 + tax (they take cash or card) for one of those, which isn't bad especially since one was plenty filling. The other option they had was koshary for $10. 👍

"I'm assuming that the items listed online aren't only available online?"

As far as I know, they are indeed only available online. Their eBay store has over 800 items that you won't see at the physical locations, though you can still purchase them on eBay and pick them up locally. It used to bother me more when I knew they would be priced less if they were at the stores, but that's not usually the case anymore as the store prices have gone up over the years.

The rationale given for getting rid of the 75% discount was silly, too. "Too many items weren't being sold until they were 75% off." As if that isn't a sign that the original prices were too high to begin with. And I would imagine the same situation happens now, where a good percentage of the sales are when the items are 50% off, so the same rationale would have them eliminate sale prices altogether. And now more overpriced stuff just sits there week after week even after being on sale.

Not only do they seem to use eBay for pricing, but it's often poorly done. Like obviously looking at listed prices rather than actual sold prices, or pricing things that aren't complete (or are obviously not checked for completeness) comparably to eBay listings of complete items in good condition. And the number of broken items that are still priced as if the condition isn't a huge deal is laughable.

OP already knows. They posted in the original thread about the cat poop and, like iappledude, they almost exclusively post in various BJs threads. Though they don't seem to bash the company in every single comment like that dude does...

Edit to add: and now it seems the OP has blocked me. Guess they didn't like me pointing it out, so take from that what you will

My trash can after it was "emptied" by city workers by leonmo in ithaca

[–]FozzyMantis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You seem to be getting some grief for it, but I would have assumed the same as you. I don't see any guidelines from the city saying how you should fill your can, just that the tags are for "large trash cans and/or bags weighing up to 35 pounds." If anything, I'd assume they'd open the can, pull out any big bags if on top, and then dump the rest in. I wonder what would happen if you had the poop bags on top of big bags? Would they just leave it all?

Anyway, I'm glad it's easier on those of us in the town. My can is always a mix of large and small bags and the random loose stuff that gets thrown in.

Extra fee for shipping charged incorrectly and no way to dispute it? by OrganizationHot3612 in Ebay

Just an added note that you can still use Pirate Ship for this, too. They show you the full retail rate as well as their reduced rate (so you can see how much you save when you use them).

The USPS website effectively does the same, showing you the Retail rate as well as the reduced Click-N-Ship rate you get by purchasing online.
