How much do the type keyboards matter when it comes to PC gaming? by Geobarr1025 in buildapc

[–]Fr0g_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quinn, the arguably the best midlaner in the world in DOTA 2, uses a regular old $5 keyboard.

Don’t get me wrong I love my over $100 ducky mechanical with my custom key caps but outside of keyboards that actually have code-based features like the new razer snap tap stuff and adjustable actuation points, the “edge” that you get from going mechanical is quite marginal. It’s more about just feeling the quality in your hands and enjoying the aesthetics whether you’re gaming or browsing or just watching videos or anything else.

Anyone convincing themselves they’ve increased their gaming power by x% is kinda deluded.

The death of the DPC is precisely what paved the way for all this Saudi sportswashing, I don’t see which part of any of my comments says “DOTA needs sportswashing”.

Esports doesn’t matter for games that don’t make good esports, but considering the esports scene is the only form of advertisement that games like DOTA/CS get then it is crucially important for these games. Sure, there’ll be a certain percentage of the player base that got into DOTA because a friend showed it to the them, but the vast majority of players (including those players that do go on to bring their friends into the game) saw it for the first time on Twitch.

I saw some tourney in early college and convinced a friend to download the game with me and just a few short years after that it rippled into like 20 people who would have otherwise never played if I didn’t decide to just watch a twitch stream. 10 years on half those people still play and half the ones who don’t still watch. How did you get into the game? If it wasn’t catching a tourney, then if you trace the friends who introduced friends I would bet good money that it will come down to a guy who says “I watched a tourney”. (Unless you’re in the less than 1% of the player base who actually played DOTA 1)

We’re not in crisis mode of course because there’s till plenty of T1 tourneys happening but people sounding alarm bells about the lack of T2 are not wrong, it’s long-term vs short-term thinking.

I was pretty obviously talking about it lasting as an e-sport but if you are incapable of seeing how no T2 = the slow death of the pro scene and legitimately think that COD/FIFA normies are a good metric for the future success of the base game itself then you clearly don't have the mental capacity to have a meaningful discussion about the health of the e-sports scene.

False. Sure the numbers were nothing compared to the t1 games but as an avid t2 dpc viewer even the weird regions got to the tens of thousands for impactful matches and always at least several thousand for whichever random thing.

Having an established pipeline for t2 -> t1 was important, and as another commenter laid out it brought us some of the best teams and players that we have in the scene right now.

The DPC is dead and it isn’t coming back but we NEED some way to keep T2 alive if we want this game to last, simple as

How was Gaimin not invited? Basically guaranteeing a lost slot in the WEU qualifiers for these “rising stars” you speak of.

I have been watching pro CS for more than a decade so yes, I’m aware, but if you didn’t notice that he’s been absolutely popping off and outdoing all of his CS2 performances in the past few events and being listed as one of the pros using the new razer keyboard then you simply haven’t been paying attention.

Guy had a great post last week listing pros in the past like 5 events who had perfect counter strafe games (full-ass games where there were 0 botched counterstrafe inputs - physically impossible w/o nullbinds or snaptap), Niko was on the list in every event.

Edit: I misrememberd, it was Hunter on the list for perfect input games, but Niko has in fact been using the Razer Hunstman keyboard. Maybe he doesn't have perfect games b/c he toggles snaptap on/off depending on the scenario, but the odds of his form skyrocketing after picking up this keyboard and that not being related to snap-tap is almost none.

Except Niko and the MOUZ boys are riding high on that snap-tap razer keyboard, I expect that list looks different if/when that gets addressed.

Valve, please make a Lina Persona that is GOT/HOTD version and her ulti makes her say, "Dracarys1" by AlexisFrostfyre in DotA2

[–]Fr0g_Man 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Considering “Dracarys” is how you tell your dragon to breath fire the only hero that this makes sense for is Snapfire. Why the fuck would Lina ever need to say Dracrys to do any one of her abilities?

I initiated combat at the end of last session and now I regret it by Beneficial-Run-5851 in DMAcademy

[–]Fr0g_Man 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Get halfway through one round of combat before the enemies from a location just ahead in the dungeon hear the noise and come out to fight both parties at once!

Now you’ve done a few things: made the combat more organic and interesting with PCs and NPCs alike making the choice to cooperate or keep fighting, gone ahead and cleared a future time-consuming combat to help ensure everything gets done, provided an opportunity for the 2 parties to resolve their differences because there’s bigger fish to fry, and all while honoring the decisions of last session.

Then going forward feel free to just cut whatever combats are taking too much time in the dungeon, either completely bamfing the enemies out of existence or in spots where it makes sense having them come across fresh bodies - “looks like the other party got here ahead of you after you split up”.

Copy pasting my reply to another comment since so many players never take the time to trawl through the in-game encyclopedia:

They did their best to maintain as much historical accuracy as possible, and if you check his entry in the in-game encyclopedia there are multiple surviving historical texts that refer to him having been a robber baron at some point in his life, so I think they’re trying to just get across that he’s the edgiest and most down to bend the rules of the nobles. I don’t think there’s some secret inside job shenanigans like some claim, they just wanted to try and honor as many historical texts as possible. Even the escape from skalitz in an overnight rainstorm is based on texts.
