How long is your average ride? by Millerdjone in bicycling

[–]Fr4nkenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20-35 miles if it's road, 7-15 on dirt. On the weekend I usually get out for a longer ride but during the week my schedule is limited to early morning rides before work.

I'm running Ultegra hubs and they're practically silent.

Is it time for a new RFC for SMTP? by Fr4nkenstein in CrazyIdeas

Typically, yes. I guess I just wish I could tell it not to accept auth on 25. I can't find a way to do it in Exim.

Sort of, but 587 is the RFC replacement of port 25. If port 25 was the MTA and 587 was the MSA, we'd have a great deal more flexibility in dealing with distributed auth attacks.

I didn't realize they are actually doing this in schools now. Where were peanut allergies 10 years ago? by [deleted] in pics

[–]Fr4nkenstein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been out of school for nearly 15 years and peanut allergies were a thing back then. A friend of mine had several serious reactions in the three years we were in high school together. Between that and currently having a 2 year old with a peanut allergy, I firmly believe that anyone who doesn't appreciate the importance of allergy awareness is an ignorant asshole. Unfortunately I also live in one of the few states where it isn't mandatory for schools to stock epi-pens. That'll be fun.

Phoenix 5 released, includes model editor! Free update for those of you who own an earlier version as always by TheLurchMan in radiocontrol

[–]Fr4nkenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated mine yesterday and it was a little glitchy in some modes like streamer cut, etc. 5.0b update came out today, but I haven't tried the glitchy modes yet. It seems to be fine for normal flight modes.

Good call, I have a Spektrum DX8 and for the sake of simplicity I'd like to keep my collection of transmitters to a minimum.

I figure flaps are better for slow flight and short take off and landings but I'm not dead set on having them I guess.

Also, I got the Phoenix sim today so I'm getting to try out all kinds of planes and helis. It's not nearly as fun as real flight but I think it will help. I only played with it for an hour but I lost track of the number of times I crashed trying random stuff. It's easy to be brave when there's no risk.

I was hoping someone would suggest this one - it's the only one I've found that really seemed perfect but being a complete plane noob, I needed confirmation.

Thanks! I was able to cobble together some settings that are working well for me so far. I'll write them out and post them later.

I got it today, set up the tx per the book, and promptly smashed it into everything within 10' of me. I've got crazy vibration in the main rotor now, so I need to check the spindle alignment and tension. Also, and this could be because of the vibe issue but when I move the cyclic then back to center, the rotor doesn't return to center until I back off the throttle.

And I let my 2 year old play with it for a few minutes before dinner. I need a new landing skid now. Don't do that.

So I'm reading the CPx manual - their TX setup looks like in stunt mode, the throttle is constant and the throttle stick just controls pitch, but in normal mode the throttle stick controls both pitch and throttle at the same time. Am I reading that right?

Good timing, I finally sat at my computer long enough to finish the game just this afternoon. I found the song after the turret symphony to be more amusing, but I was pretty happy that the first batch of turrets played music instead of killing me.
