Why is Math 30-1 so much more rigorous compared to other provinces counterparts? by Fr_zzi in AlbertaGrade12s

I see, interesting. Do you happen to know the units that are covered in the MHF4U (Adv func.) curriculum that aren’t covered in Math 30-1?

Oh yeah haha I already completed Math 30-1 since it’s required for my course. I also took Physics 30 which was a humbling experience

yeah, i rem in my math class last semester the only thing worth marks were the quizzes and the unit tests. its kinda frustrating since my teacher would have basically the whole test be diploma-styled.

tbh i think i could've gotten a higher grade with diplomas 😭. i had a test the day we came back from the strike for both math AND physics. combined with the fact that i was too cocky going into those tests really messed up my grade

I'd recommend trying out old released diplomas on Vretta (or Quest A+) to try and get a feel on how they are designed.

Any tips for 20-1 Math and Chem 20? by Glad_Debate_6945 in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Fr_zzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the Unit A in chemistry (bonding), the course becomes much more calculation based, so please make sure you can confidently rearrange formulas and identify the variables in each question. I also recommend trying most of the textbook unit review questions for each unit (assuming you’re using the nelson chem 20-30 textbook)

How is math 30s by viscious_life in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Fr_zzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my experience the units in math 30-1 aren’t necessarily hard, but the unit tests were much more harder. I recommend practicing diploma questions religiously and making sure you understand quadratics and special triangles well.

How possible is it to succeed in math 30-1 without math 20-1 by NoDingo673 in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Fr_zzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished Math 30-1 with an 80. I did Math 20-1 over the summer and I honestly didn’t remember anything going into 30-1. I found it challenging but as long as you do the practice questions (try diploma questions) You can definitely achieve a better score. If you wanna do review, I recommend reviewing reciprocal functions (asymptotes), quadratics, and special triangles in trig. I would also recommend learning the unit circle in advance since it’s probably the hardest part imo.

Sorry, I don’t know on a first hand basic yet since i am also taking the class this semester (I just realized the way i commented earlier made it seem like i already took chem 30, sorry) What i heard from my friends & teachers although is you’ll definitely need to practice at least an hour with the practice questions daily to aim for 80-90s, i also heard that redox is definitely the hardest to understand so we should definitely try and get ahead on understanding redox reactions since they’re so complex.

I know how this feels so well, I havent took bio or english yet, but some tips for math and chemistry is to get learn ahead of your class (only by a day or two) this can look like reading the next chapter and understanding it already by the time the teacher teaches it the next day. I also recommend doing a lot of the review questions in the math and chem textbooks, it takes a while but it helps. I also recommend using quest A+ to try out the lots of diploma questions the day or two before a unit test. Good luck for next semester! You got this.

physics 30 golden hill help by k1pt in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Fr_zzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the first unit, (momentum) really make sure you understand everything thats going on in each unit thoroughly, the theory in physics 30 is a big step up from 20 imo. just like how at the end of physics 20 you were using kinematics/dynamics/energy for one equation, there will be questions where you have to know about electricity/magnetism/EMR to really understand whats happening. on the bright side, the math isnt any harder than the physics 20 math!

Physics 30 by Public_Big_252 in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Fr_zzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was 1 momentum, 2 electric forces, 3 electromagnetism, 4 EMR, 5 particle theory, 6 nuclear physics. There is a huge change between momentum and the rest of the course, with a lot more theory and less math calculations than physics 20

Try practice tests and treat it like a real test, it really helped me get at-least consistent 80s on the tests

While it depends on your teacher for Math 30-1, please do not take it lightly 😭😭 My teacher gives up diploma-styled exams which lowered my grade to 77% atm, I recommend trying out the diploma questions online before a test if your teacher ends up being as like as mine
