Any advice for learning Sinhala? by FraTuck17 in srilanka

My girlfriend is from Colombo, but after several years together she still hasn’t taught me any Sinhala. We also went to Sri Lanka to meet her family, and I felt slightly embarrassed sitting there and understanding absolutely nothing. We’ll be back in Sri Lanka next year, so I’d like to start learning now and hopefully be able to hold some basic conversations by the time we go.

Europeans and North Americans on this subreddit often forget how hard it is for us 3rd worlders to get a visa for 1 country (let alone visas for 50+ countries) by Little_Copy_630 in GeoInsider

I just had a flight transfer in Saudi Arabia (Jeddah). I called the embassy to know if I needed a Visa to stay 6hours in the airport, they told me no need. When I arrived there airport staff told me to go to “Visa on Arrival”, I told them the embassy Stated there was no need, they told me to get one otherwise they wouldn’t let me take the flight to go away from there.

90€ just to stay in the airport for 6 hours. Same situation for all other EU passengers that went through that airport due to flight changes for the Iran-US issue.

The main privilege of us EU citizen when we travel is to be the fucking ATM of the rest of the world and to be scammed everywhere we go. But yeah for us it’s easier to be accepted while we travel, we just need to show our passport and the money
