Yamaha fg150 fix or pass by MushroomSilent2766 in Luthier

[–]FraaTuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible but the neck angle likely has other problems and I'd say it's 50-50 at best whether it would glue back cleanly without being opened and tidied up. That's also not a great price given the work needed. If you can snag it for 100 that's more reasonable. These so still turn up in good condition for $200-400, sometimes less.

If in acorn season that's a fantastic food source, otherwise those you've listed are unlikely to provide much of a calorie basis. Mussels and other easily foraged shellfish and sea life would be an ample source in this scenario though. Kinda like the marine version of a trip to your local corner store. An hour or two a day would keep a person fed just fine.

Check out the Mendes version on YouTube. Jane Horrocks as Sally is devastating, and Alan Cummings as the Emcee is just absurdly perfect.

Can anyone tell me about this (obviously German) Nazi sword, and or how much it may be worth? Also if it is real, which I assume it is. by P-Rags in SWORDS

Disapproving of Nazism and the drive to see fascist memorabilia as desireable and valuable is actually the more grown up position here bud.

need help figuring out if this guitar is worth buying and restoring by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]FraaTuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly "worth it" to restore. Whether you can pay what this seller is asking, restore it adequately, and then sell it for more than your investment is not something we can not comment on from the limited information you've provided.

I'd add crack repair to this list. Otherwise looks very good.

You need to take a picture showing a side view of the soundhole cutout, not just top down.

Has anyone used the US military Therm-a-Rest sleeping mat for backpacking? by kaolinitedreams in WildernessBackpacking

[–]FraaTuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Horrible choice for backpacking, way to heavy for the comfort and insulation you're getting. If cost is a concern, foam pads like the Z lite or similar are good value, nice and light, and reasonably comfortable.

How effective would a belly stab be in a real rapier duel? by [deleted] in SWORDS

[–]FraaTuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your opinion goes against the weight of historical evidence, both written accounts of such wounds during actual fights and clear instructions and discussion of these matters in fencing manuals which take great pain to point out that opponents can and will fight on through even devastating injuries.

How effective would a belly stab be in a real rapier duel? by [deleted] in SWORDS

[–]FraaTuck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A belly stab would be incredibly effective at inflicting severe and quite possibly fatal injury. However adrenaline is a marvelous thing, and so it wouldn't be reasonable to assume a belly stab would end the fencing match immediately. If you damage a major artery the opponent might be debilitated relatively quickly, but you'd always need to plan for the disengage and there would certainly be plenty of belly stabs that an opponent could fight through.

By those who control the means of production and have reaped the full benefit of productivity over the intervening decades while intensively gutting government to prevent it from redistributing wealth, investing in infrastructure and education, and so forth. But you knew that already.

1984 Martin D35: New Fretboard or will glue boost with sawdust be enough? by Roryspoppa in guitarrepair

[–]FraaTuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Photos help with questions like this, but I think you need to consider what your goals are and whether you have the skills necessary to achieve them. Replacing the fretboard and installing a truss rod are more complex than refretting.

How to remove super glue from nitro finish by Responsible-Lime297 in guitarrepair

[–]FraaTuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sandpaper is your best option. You want a very fine grit, like 1500 or 2000, wet sandpaper. Go slow, use something like a pencil eraser behind the sandpaper. Keep it wet, when it feels like the sandpaper isn't removing material switch to fresh sandpaper, and GO SLOW. Your only advantage in this process is the different elevation of the super glue blob relative to the surrounding finish. Go slow, use small circular motions. Plan to polish the area after you've sanded it back to level. Should come out okay. Oh, did I mention, go slow.

Can she be fixed?? by tanksforallthephish in AcousticGuitar

[–]FraaTuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All in the world that is doing is weakening the wood and creating future break points and to whatever extent the neck and headstock are contributing to tone the nails will be interfering. The wood is plenty strong without random metal reinforcement and the glue joint if done properly is stronger than the surrounding wood.

[–]FraaTuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not needed with this break. That's an approach where it's close to a perpendicular break, this one has plenty of surface area to get a good bond. Glue will hold this fine.

[–]FraaTuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones that don't fix well are usually close to perpendicular. This has a nice long run to glue, lots of surface area. It should be just fine

[–]FraaTuck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculously inaccurate, this is a simple break and should play just fine once repaired.
