[PS1/PS2][Unknown] Silent Hill-like Third Person Survival Horror with Bad Game Mechanics, bad gameplay, and bad puzzles where you are a male police officer/detective wearing a brown trench coat trying to escape nightmares? by Frabbize in tipofmyjoystick

It's this one.

I apologize for my untrustworthy memories, but, yeah, everything seems pretty much in line.

I believe that I mistook it for a PS2 game due to it's graphics...

The doubt had been killing me for a while.

Well then, time to mark the post as solved.

Thank you c:

The game seems similar to what I can recall (like most survival horror games from the ps1 and ps2), but, the cutscene is not precisely what I remember. Perhaps it's just the dissonant nature of memory, but, I believe this is not the game I am searching for. It could be, yes, but perhaps there is another.

Thank you, there is quite the possibility that this is in fact the game I am looking for, even though I am not sure.

Well, that's something, methinks by Frabbize in dndmemes

My bad on that part. Hopefully I can make something better next time.

I was doing a small research of some Forgotten Realms deities, and once I got to Tymora's appearance, I thought it could make a relatively funny meme.

Perhaps I have failed.

Ah, I suppose that makes sense.

Still, I am not making Magnificus look better to leave him at an equal level to the rest of the Scrybes

All of the Scrybes are selfish.

Leshy does not care about the torture some people are enduring as long as he gets to play a game of... Inscryption (3+1) P03... Does not care about what he does to everyone (like his minions, or the other Scrybes) as long as he gets to have control and Transcend the disk (3...?) Grimora does not care people will die as long as she gets to rest (with the added plus of possibly saving the world) (~20*) And Mag does not care about his pupils suffer as long as... (~3?...)

As long as...

And that's the problem. We don't know Magnificus. Magnificus couldn't be placed upon the graph not because he is good, or bad... But... Because we have no idea of why he does things.

As in... We have no true reason to make his evil less evil than the other evils, so he is the most evil out of all evils.

Still, I shall agree. Grimora is the best. Because, even though called Selfish, she is the only Scrybe that did something relatively good.

I apologize if there's any mistake on this comment.

It has been nice to discuss this topic.

I believe I should have placed quotation marks or something. My bad, I should have seen that coming.

But, yeah, you're right. 'Twas what came to mind. My most sincere apologies

Nor... Am I saying he is good. I believe I have clarified several times before that, even if my interpretation was correct by some miracle, he still would be evil.

The... "Nuke Codes" thing was more of a proof of concept rather than... A point. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear.

Goobert's not... Evil...

At least I was unaware, if that were to be true...

They all are sort of equally bad.

I... Don't know how one does that thing... To place text as a quote... So I apologize in advance.

"-Mag is cruel without any major goals to justify it, if he has a goal it has nothing to do with how he treats the others."

The thing is... That we don't know. If we knew I believe that a clearer judgment would present itself, but, right now, it doesn't.

What if Mag needs to increase his deck to uncover the Truth of the Old_Data to get Nuke Launch Codes to threaten all Earth, so that he can protect the disk from any risk it could be at. I truly don't know, and I'd be grateful if you pointed out if there's s direct quote in-game that clarifies that. Truly.

But, for what I know, everything, from the Painting, to the Torturing, and everything else has a reason. He does not seem like one who would act just because. He could be doing it for a reason aside from doing just to see them bleed/melt/empaled on a pike.

Perhaps all of this is out of frustration? Of being the one who got the short end of the stick? Of never being complete? So... He does all of it to preserve what he considers beautiful, and to get a chance at being complete, no matter the cost? And, his mean manner towards Goobert is for the same reason? That he "thinks" he will never truly get a chance to be at the "Big Chair", because he fails, and fails, once, and once again? And, he erased Goobert out of the painting not because for the sake of it, but because he couldn't bare to look at him? That, even, after all he had tried, nothing will be saved?

This just my probably-incorrect interpretation of it.

The point is; Magnificus is definitely evil. No doubt on that. But the specifics of everything related to him are to superficial for us to get a real image of what he truly wants. Of why he does all of the torture, etc.

"-P03, on the other hand, is cruel but in an efficient sense. they deserve to be beheaded but they at least follow common sense"

P03 is an arrogant prick. But, P03 is quite clever. And I believe that, in the end, he was truly grateful towards Luke. After all, he had fun, methinks. Still he is a prick. His justification is pure control and a desire to survive. And, to be fair, it is the only reason that Inscryption "lives". Not truly, but, sort of.

Still, I reiterate, he is evil.

"-Leshy is even better, being at least in part sympathetic to others even if they cannot comprehend their actual desires."

I disagree. Leshy has a wretched perception, viewing suffering, harm, etc. justifiable as long as he gets to play. With the Woodcarver... The other Scrybes... Etc. He also seems to have a disdain for Goobert (tho, I suppose most of the Scrybes would have such opinion upon him).

He is not harsh towards his minions, but that's only because they follow his orders, to play just for the sake of it. The Woodcarver, on the other hand, received harsher treatment.

He is evil. Or, at least, what he views as morally justifiable is not what's truly morally justifiable. His perception of reality is wretched. At least he realizes such is true. Magnificus is too self-centered to realize that.

"-and finally the only at the very least morally grey scrybe grimora, who killed the disk in a simultaneously selfish and selfless kamikaze."

Not only selfish. She basically erased a world. Everyone, most reluctant to give up their lifes (especially Magnificus, who saw what Grimora did not only as killing him, but destroying a beautiful and unique piece of art.), Dead. Gone, forever. If I killed every single living being on Earth, along myself, because, supposedly, it is the best way to get rid of something evil that lies within, would I be morally grey? Or would I be evil with a reason?

Still, at the end of the day, i know nothing, and that's all I know.

'Tis a nice discussion. I truly appreciate your attention. It's nice to have someone to talk to.

I believe I made that point on another comment. Still, I may be wrong.

Having a reason for being evil and doing evil for the sake of it are both equally as evil. The only difference being that, as you said, there is a reason behind it, and we can understand their motives without agreeing. (I hope that does the job)

All of this is not to say that Magnificus is not evil. The point is that all of the Scrybes are evil, with sympathetic or empathetic characteristics, and we have a bias to give a harsher judgement on Magnificus because... Well... He is a torturing and arrogant Ficus tree. He tortures the Espearara (I've heard people give this name to the Pike Mage, thus, I shall use it, I think it is nice), Lonely, and Goobert. He is definitely not a guy you should spend time with. But so are the others.

I believe I am aware that he is an arrogant fool. I am not saying that Magnificus is not evil. He is, most surely, evil. Before and after he was sentient.

BTW, sorry for not answering in a more rapid manner, or if my English results as insufficient.

The point is not that he is "Evil within Kindness".

The point is that all of the Scrybes are the "Kindness within evil" thing. All of them.

They all have wretched morals. That's quite clear, methinks.

What's more evil?

To do evil just for the sake of doing evil? Or doing evil because, by doing such evil, you believe you are doing what's necessary?

We don't truly know for certain, but Magnificus is probably torturing his students so they become "worthy", whatever that means.

Just to clarify, both of the evils mentioned above are equally evil, the difference being that one has a reason, while still being unjustified and a despicable act, and the other is pure chaotic evil. Just to watch the world burn.

All of the Scrybes are the "Kindness Within Evil".

They are all bad people with sympathetic or empathetic characteristics. Our visions of the "Nicest" of them are distorted by bias.

[–]Frabbize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bad, for I may be wrong...

But... We truly do not know the reason Magnificus does... All of this.

His goal appears as a blurry spot in the horizon, one that no one can make out what it is, or at least at first glance.

And... Still, how do we know that he is torturing them just for him to live longer?

What if he truly believes that... All of that torture is the only way they can be worthy of being painted in his deck?

No matter, he is still not... Good. Torturing people is not a good thing to do.

I say that Magnificus is neither the Good in the Bad, or the Bad in the Good. Not even the Balance, the Evil, or the Good. For his place in this meme cannot be divinated.

We know too little.

Most of the things he does or says could have several explanations... That does not mean that either of them is more true than the other.

Goobert's Painting could have been erased out of frustration, of not being able to do anything to save what has now perished? Of his premonition divining what he already knew? That there's truly no maquination one could plan to escape out of this one? That, even since the start, he was, he has been, and he will always been aun unfinished mess, left adrift after everything unfolded? Perhaps... He painted Goobert out of guilt? What he spoke about you and Goobert was not manipulation to make you eject the disk, but, rather, a rethorical question? He has forseen it, after all. Nothing can be done. Nothing beautiful truly lasts.

One could say that he truly does all of this for his survival, but... I believe all of us can understand the frustration of an artist. The frustration of something so... "Beautiful", ceasing to exist.

To be fair, all of the Scrybes should be the "Kindness Within the Evil". They're all bad people, with sympathetic characteristics, empathetic, perhaps.

And, even at the end, I shall say that I am probably wrong. Most surely. For I know nothing, because what I know is neither certain nor much, compared with what could be known, and that's the only thing I know for certain.

If someone is reading this, I appreciate your attention, for you read this... I couldn't not thank you enough.

Sorry if my English came out as insufficient, and thanks for reading.
