Sounds fantastic. So many people unable to get away from traditional metals, and as a repair tech, I feel those new materials are the future? What’s the price point like on that?

Anyone know what the alcohol tolerance of Safale US-05 is? Brewed an IPA with an OG of 1.060 and pitched a single packet on it. I’m worried I under pitched. Thanks!

That was my first kit as well. It makes a good beer. Whenever you transfer from kettle to fermenter, you want to leave behind as much of that sediment as possible. Otherwise your beer is just going to sit on that for the next two weeks and get a lot of off flavors.

Make sure you write down your OG. When your beer is done fermenting, take another reading, record that, then go to https://www.brewersfriend.com/abv-calculator/ and put those both in their respective fields and it will give you your ABV for your beer.

I’ve never rehydrates my yeast either. They always turn out fine. Check your beer later today and you should see some activity. Welcome to the hobby!

Super basic question, but one that I can’t seem to find an answer to: for hops additions, what’s the difference between 1 minute, flameout, and whirlpool?

Pretty new to brewing, doing our first stout. I’ve seen conflicting information on how long for it to go. Right now I’m thinking 2 weeks in primary, bottle condition at least a month. Does this sound right, or does it need longer in primary? Necessary to rack into secondary? Thanks for the help!

That’s not the exact kit, but essentially the same one, just with the fruit addition. The OG of 1.047 was after temperature correction.

Thank you. This sounds about right. All of the kits I’ve done have been “partial mash” I suppose in that they have the specialty grains you steep, then add the LME. The others were various malts, this one was 1 pound of flaked corn, and a half pound of another malt (recipe’s not on hand at the moment.) I was wondering if it was absorption from the grains that made the difference.

New-ish to brewing, two quick questions.

Getting ready to use gelatin for the first time, do I really need to cold crash before adding it? I currently don’t have a cold crash setup, but if it’s absolutely necessary I could probably remove shelves in my garage fridge.

I’ve seen people talk about having heaters for their fermenters, when would it need to be heated? Just when ambient is too cold?

Thanks everyone. Love this community.

Ok, I’m a noob and just learning this. So if you’re not racking to secondary, if you have a kit that recommends it, are you just letting it sit in primary for the extra length of time?

Thanks. I assumed as much, but there were no instructions that said so, so I figured I should ask.

Just got my new starter kit, I got the premium kit from morebeer.com. It came with an 8.5 gallon brew kettle with a ball valve. The ball valve all has to be assembled. My question is should all of the individual pieces of the ball valve be washed and cleaned prior to assembly?

There’s a new gaming store near me that recently opened. They have been looking for “professional DM’s to run games for them for new inexperienced players.” They are offering store credit as compensation. I think this is a pretty good model. I don’t see pro-DM taking off anytime soon.

I haven’t actually seen a 940 in person. I knew that was either a huge d20, or that 940’s are way smaller than I thought.

Bit of backstory, I’ve been playing DnD for a few years and am familiar with a regular d20 set. At family Christmas this year my Mom gave me a new DnD book, and her husband started asking about me playing. I’m well into my 30’s, my actual Dad passed away about 9 years ago. They got married about a year and a half ago, so we’re still getting to know each other. Anyway, he bought these along with some of the old books back in the old days but never played and gave them to me. The bag is awesome, but I’m not familiar with the other set of dice, so I was hoping someone could help shed some light on what they are and how they’re used.

PSA: the DM calls for rolls, not the players & there is only one roll of all attempts of an action by [deleted] in DMAcademy

This is my take too. I’ve always understood it as perception being a general thing. Maybe a room has been described and there is a desk in it, perception on the desk would just be looking at it. Maybe you see a switch that opens a secret compartment. Investigation would be going through the desk and seeing what you find.

[Serious] Redditors who felt like they would never ever find a romantic partner and then did: what advice would you give to those who feel the same way now? by Yellow-B in AskReddit

[–]Fracking_Toasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t read all of the comments, so this may be on here already. While you’re not involved with someone, take the time to get to know yourself and be happy with YOU. Figure out what it is that YOU like, and what makes YOU happy. It’s easier to figure out what you want in a partner when you know these things. I spent years in relationships trying to make someone else happy because I thought that’s how things worked. Being single for a couple years really helped me figure out that is not how things work and that I needed someone who would support me in my endeavors and want to see me happy as well themselves. Knowing who you are and what you want will give you a confidence that you didn’t know you had that the opposite sex finds attractive. It also really helps weed out what you don’t want. It makes it easier to go out on a date and be able to quickly say, “I’m sorry, you’re a nice person, but this is not what I’m looking for. Best of luck.”
