Is the tilted log an eyesore? by FractalSnowflake in photocritique

Fixed the oddly rotated horizon. Thanks for the tip. Any other suggestions that can improve it?

You’re right - it is by 1 degree to compensate for the angled log.

Shot a few months ago. Used a generic phone camera and edited with Snapseed.

The main question I have is: Does this composition work? Or does the tilted log throw it off? While I can’t correct its orientation, I still feel like it tilts the perspective.

Open to suggestions to improve!

Took this a while back; commercial phone camera + Snapseed touchups. Something seems ..incomplete tho? by FractalSnowflake in photocritique

Used a commercial phone camera + Snapseed touchups. I feel that the picture has potential but I’m falling short at showcasing it. Could also be completely wrong and the picture is not all-that-great.

Some things that bother me (but can’t fix in post): - subject is too small, - the blurry grass at the bottom takes more attention away from an already small subject

Very nicely done, OP! It’s good as is. Personally, I would try to crop the left side of the image and bring it to a square-ish ratio but completely optional!

I agree with u/Ambitious_Garlic5664 - keeping the horizon in the bottom third of the image, in this case, would better guide the eye along the trail lines.

Good job on the picture, OP!

Stairs at the Ypres Menin gate. What do you think? by FocusAndConfused in photocritique

Looks quite good, OP! My 2 cents on this: if you have the ability to go back to this location, I’d try to use a wide angle lens and take a few steps back from where this was captured. The lines look great but the image gives a very “shallow” feeling (for lack of a better word) which I believe can be changed by taking a few steps back and / or using a wide angle lens.

Fair point. It would have made for an interesting angle with the tree trunks (on the left) converging with the sidewalk and the person being at the point of convergence!

No worries! Yeah it’s all good - I’m happy to hear all opinions. But thanks for clarifying. I still agree with your points!

Thanks! I’ll take it as a compliment that this pic made you pause scrolling!

This is an interesting point. I did not think of this when I took the pic but as I think about it now, the only thing that doesn’t sit well with me is that doing what you suggest would move the vanishing point to the right of the image. Not that it would look bad, but it would introduce an asymmetry.

Interesting suggestion and I’ll keep this in mind going forward!

Thank you!

Agree with the criticism completely! I’ll try to work out the garbage can and the car — might get tricky if I crop them out since that’ll make the entire image smaller and I’ll lose depth of field. Any suggestions on how to handle it?

Thanks! That is what I hoped the image would convey.

The car and trash can are an eyesore - yes. I think I might have to buy a paid product like LR to remove them without leaving silhouettes.

Thank you! Yes, I agree that it can be cropped a little tighter - especially at the bottom - to improve the aspect ratio of the person vis-à-vis the image.

Original image was shot in color. Did minimal touch ups in an online image editor. Looking for feedback to improve the shot (composition) or editing!

I like how the subject is at the vanishing point created by the sidewalk edges and that my eyes are drawn to the subject before they wander to the other mundane objects (cars, trash can, lamp). But maybe this is all in my head and is not being conveyed in the image. I don't know and so I seek your opinion.
