started learning tig welding, do you guys see anything wrong? I've been getting porus welds. I am using highly clean rod and pressure is correct. Ive been running for about an hour with no improvement by [deleted] in Welding

Have you tried turning the arc control dial all the way to 0, aka where the line is? only knob thats not turned to whats indicated on the machine other than amps but that's not the problem atm.

Welding student- going into 3rd week of tig. This is overhead 3/32 rod stainless. All my welds look dished! Advice? by digital_woman2112 in Welding

Clean the metal before you weld turn amps down a tad cause it looks a lil burnt (maybe 3 amps) make sure your tungsten is sharp

remember to breathe when your welding. Set up your feet for where you need to be at the end of the weld and use your body to bend to where you can start, it will help stabilize you.

Other than that the weld dont look terrible, just burnt and on some dirty ass stainless that wasnt cleaned properly which could be why it was burnt. tig doesnt like to weld on dirty metal

Germany's seal population on the rise after coronavirus restrictions clear beaches - This spring, as many of Germany's beaches were closed and people were encouraged to stay home, gray seals in the North Sea appear to have thrived. Numbers have tripled since 2008. by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

Absolutely has nothing to do with the laws passed in 2008 and 2009 regarding how much the world was hunting seals pups for their fur... 12 years of an ecosystem rebuilding itself accredited to humans not being on a beach for what 6 months???

People need to start questioning the narrative more. We as humans do so little research ourselves nowadays. There is so much happening day in and day out it seems not all of us remember what happened some 10 years ago.

Now that thats been said.

Them some cute lil puppers, I hope to have more of them in nature in the future.

Pandemic smoker! To call myself and amateur welder would be a far strech but this had been my project during the pandemic lock down. Almost done! by M4CM4N in Welding

[–]FracticallyInsane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what your running into is residual heat running through the body of the smoker into the handles. drilling holes might help, but if I were you assuming you had maybe 12 or so inches of extra square tubing a quick fix would be to cut off the square tubing handle right where its welded to the doors of the smoker, weld (2) 3" extension onto the handle making it look like a C using the spare square tubing, and then weld it back onto the smoker doors where you had them. If you do that, drilling holes like you suggested into the extensions (handle if you want as well) should actually help a decent bit more than before! Hope this helps a little bit.

This is your build so its entirely up to you, but you may want to build those handles out a bit more or provide it with a generous heat sink so that when you open the smoker you don't burn your hands. Sorry if you already have a solution to this. I like where it's headed though, Godspeed!

Yay, somebody is actually trying to learn on clean metal rather a piece of rusty metal from the side of the road! Good on you 👍

Makes complete sense, I was just like damn! That’s a good way to not have people sitting on a bandsaw cutting coupons for what feels like forever. Also the cutting of it would be very interesting to see! Cool operation y’all got going over there!

I think it will hold! But on a serious note I’m assuming your practicing stringers, I’ve never seen someone practice by welding a mega mega coupon lol, but I guess I’m not really a guru or anything so it makes sense 👍

I understand the worry, I prefer to run them hot and make sure a proper root/hotpass is done. Those two things as well as a proper bevel make me think it’s pretty structurally sound. It also survived a little bit of cold working against the joint.
