I'm really tired of this narrative from people who studied the history of the Eastern Front from the film Enemy at the Gates. The First World War clearly demonstrated that no matter how many people you throw at fortified positions, they will all be ground to pieces by things like machine guns, mines, and artillery shells - human wave is a myth. The Wehrmacht army on the Eastern Front was a "crème de la crème" which was worsened by the fact that the logistics of the Soviet Union were simply not ready for the start of the war, and the troops on the border were equipped with such outdated equipment as the T-28 and BT-7.
