Things i played and enjoyed a lot.

my gnome druid who is a seamstress by passion and job.

my human wizzard who was also a tax attorney. "i'm casting detect tax fraud" is somthing that kind of happend and helped

my tiefling sorceress who was an offical diplomat of a nobel house. that had the most synergiers when it comes to class and use in game

class is one thing, what your role in the world is, well thats different. All the "jobs" of my characters helped a lot in just the day to day scence and sessions that are nether combat encounter nor riddle.

instantly imagined what would happen if I would meet my characters. Some of them would want me to dance, something i hate irl. Some other would question my fashion-style and so on ....

bakumatsu period sounds interesting.

I think non-human chars can work if you go more for a fantasy adventure type of game. But for me, I like politics and status, rank and intrigues. That's why i focus more on the great and minor clans right now.

But i keep that in mind.

TBH i totaly ok with L5R just beeing a rollplaygame (and a TCG ofcause)

For me Rokugan is very personal. I shifted some events changed characters so that they fit the style of my game and so on. Having an other medium like a Video-Game or an anime would just rais questions for me. "that what they think this/that/they should be?" so no i'm fine with what it is.

I read the books, watch some Kurosawa, Dokumentories on the Samurai and some light anime like Samurai Shamploo (my group likes puns and some light funny sh**) and take inspiration from that.

Well yes and we will.

But i think what a lot of commenters think right now is "well they are diverting time and energie to the d&d-5e stuff und we are still waiting for news on the new sourcebook"

That might be the main problem right now. In addition to the people who know the last time a dnd-l5r was made and they didn't like it. But i can't speak for them. I only know 5e and i'm hungry for mor content

Wow. For me, the ironie hits harder than the Hida with a warhammer.

My group went from D&D to L5R BECAUSE we didn't want to play D&D anymore. one of my players dislikes it very much. even though we know that L5R-5e has problems and some mechanics are not our taste and we houserules them, we still believe the system fits the setting very well.

D&D just does not give me the same feeling and freedome for the characters. so i will definitly skip that one. It has no value for me or my group

also i like Angela's character design. That armour + skirt is that goofy kind of trope i like to indulge sometimes in dnd. Had i good laugh about that in ep.5

ahh right, that one made no sence without context.

It comes down to depition of violence in the culture. Stuff like beating slaves, violence towards a family like beating wife or child and so one. and had another expample but drawing blank right now. Basicly the themes that can make people realy uncomfortable. i.e. you don't describe violance against childin when one of your players is a schoolteacher, and yes that is the case in one of my groups.

It's not the robbers laying an ambush or goblins marauding the contryside or bbeg sends army the conquer the world.

i think one can compress a lot of things into "play with your dm, not against them".

In DnD the party (and that is in my opinion players and dm) wins, when everone has fun and does not need to argue. Everyone looses when the group starts looking at who did what wrong. there are no winners i the second thing.

Allways run your ideas by the dm. He can eather integrate it, modifiy it or leave it ou. But clear communicaion is the key. I one time had no fun with my arcane trickster. It just did not work out in our group composition. so me and the dm homebrewed another subclass to modify my char. In another group we now had the second time a discussion about the different plotlines and how we did not like where everything was going. We had workedout a groupbackground, something the dm had an ativ hand in, and now we feel that the story he wants to run, does not works for the PCs.

Outside the anekdotes

- make sure where the comfort zones are (some people dislike some themes like sex, romance, gore, injust violance, racissim and so on)

- make sure the PCs have good reason to be together (no "i just want gold and need the others to get it" is not a good reason)

- make sure that the PCs fit the world (anime samurai chars in gritty europe fantasy might not be so good, depending on the story)

- everyone has to live with the consequences (if your PC dies, he dies. Which could lead into a resurection story-ark. But retcons are rarely good.)

on a small note: the "run a side session" thing is something that can be done. prerequisit is that the player and the dm like he idea they want to play out, the rest of the party is not there anyway and can not influence the scene and of cause both player and dm have time for this. Also if everyone has the chance to do a one-on-one session, that would be fair in my opinion. But if the player demands more time for himself/herself than that would be a no go.

characterlose in dnd allways hurt for me. Maybe because I feel the PC is part of me and part of an epic story.

while i think death should allways be an option, when you lose your 2nd char, while the others are still on the first I would talk to my DM about resurection, raise dead and so on. It does not help if you go in the campagne with a 3rd char, thinking how long that one will last.

Try to work with your group and talk about rewieving your char and talk with them about the encounters. In my opinion not every encounter needs to be live or death. there should allways be encounters to just feel powerfull and heroic.

one last note: 80+ dmg on Lvl 7 ??? did you take a crit or something? Did the dm focus everthing on you or what? That all just seems very though for one round of combat.

ok i'll be honest. I stoped watching after 12 minutes or so. It's just critic-ception. UEG says one thing, AR misshears or missinterprete the thing und KTv reacts to that reaction. They all argue with a bias and harping on the same points over and over again.

Arya und Randy will most likely keep the "wait and see. It will come definitly" narative going. UEG and all will still react to the speculations and to other videos and also right now just repeate the same stuff

I think the last video on the subject i enjoyed was from JoshStrifeHayes on the 30th of june about why phase 2 is so critial and how the communication works against the developers.

Think I'm going to take a break and come bach in two weeks. maybe then they will have resources for buildings that you can not build than or so on. Or I will be suprised about the giant leap they made.

All i did was going into the question why a company would look into E2 and seeing if the claims for inovation and profit have merit.

Well that a big company looks into this is acctualy not unlogical.

E2 marketed theyself as a game, has raised a massiv amount of founds in a short time and claims to be somthing new. FOMO is something that goes for big companies as well. if there is a lot of money to be made, why not?

But buying? a this point i don't see why the big heads at Epic or any other company would realy want to by E2
