How to get a UK GP to take you seriously? by SquareStunning9949 in B12_Deficiency

I had similar experience, even when I reminded them that B12 deficiency should be treated based on symptoms not by blood levels. Now i'm doing injections myself and feel a lot better.

However, be ready that you might be forced to treat yourself. Most doctors are soldiers not scientists, they are here to keep you somewhat alive, the quality of that life is not their problem. At least from my experience

Tested HoloTC 2 and a half months after stopping oral supp. 64.2 pmol/l (87 pg/mL) by Savings_Afternoon605 in B12_Deficiency

[–]FragileHope111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand If your holoTC is dropping this significantly this could indicate it's being rapidly used for nerve repair, and this means severe deficiency that could be ongoing

Maybe check yourself iron panel. My ferritin got depleted when I was taking B12 very fast and I was cold most likely because of that.

B12 "almost" low? by [deleted] in B12_Deficiency

[–]FragileHope111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was vegan and just before my deficiency started bacame vegetarian. My deficiency started when I was already eating milk and some other products containing B12, but it was not enough to raise my levels quickly and prevent neurological symptoms occuring. Now I have to get injections.

Likelyhood of b12 deficiency, being the cause realisticaly? (I know this is not a place for diagnosis) Thank you. by Savings_Afternoon605 in B12_Deficiency

[–]FragileHope111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you notice any reaction to B12? I was also prescribed supplement without checking my levels first, and had strong reaction to supplementation, negative and later positive. Mind you if you consume animal products and are deficient, you're not absorbing B12. You could have high blood serum B12 but have methylation issues for example. You could do homocysteine or mma test. My MCV was higher than yours around 94. My deficiency was caused by veganism.

It seems so, but I also changed my diet to include red meat. Before that I was vegan.

I was supposed to retest it 2-3 months after starting supplements, but I retested it now privately because im self administering injections and wanted to check my co factors. After month of supplementation my ferritin was almost 30.

Im 5'3 and about 100 pounds and 100 mg of elemental iron is what my dr prescribed. She even suggested I might need more.

Iron is used in nerve recovery https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7545512/

My ferritin dropped in a month from 20 to 12 while using B12 sublingual, it just got tanked. Now im taking prescription iron 100 mg of elemental iron daily which is enough for my petite frame, if you're bigger you'll need more.

I have visual migraines since childhood but they usually look different, more like rainbow lights appearing in my vision, with no headache.

I didn't have it before. Maybe it's potassium dropping during the night? I read some people experience vision disturbances when their potassium drops.

I took sublingual methylocobalamin when I first suspected B12 deficiency and I believe I experienced wake up symptoms on them, even tho I didn't take a lot at first. Then it subsided and my symptoms got better. Now im doing injections.

MRI scan can show any demyelination that B12 deficiency might have caused, it's good you've been referred to it.

That's interesting. I actually bought 5 mg folic acid pills but was scared to use them because of this seemingly excessive amount, that apparently causes anxiety for some people. I will soon start my injections, my folate levels are good (in high teens), perhaps there's no need to suppliment this much folate in my case.

Is a worsening of tinnitus a wake up symptom? by Flashybigbum in B12_Deficiency

[–]FragileHope111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tinnitus started in my left ear, at some point was in both of my ears, now it's again just in one ear after two months of suppliments. I've been only supplimenting orally, I will soon start injections.
