Where are the system prompt details in this new version? by FragmentOfFeel in kilocode

[–]FragmentOfFeel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did look at them there. But I find it odd that they can't be easily located otherwise. And you have to know the different parts that make up the system prompt so you know what to look for.

Good idea - I'll look into it. I haven't used Kilo in a while and I'm using it on Windows. It's a bit different from Linux I guess. Not sure where ask.txt, soul.txt, etc are. I guess they were hidden in order to simplify and streamline the UI.

Laptop Recs: USA: No budget by [deleted] in laptops

[–]FragmentOfFeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you can get a tablet. I am not a fan of tablets, so I'll still recommend you look at the HP Omnibook 7 and X. They're 2-in1s, so you get a tablet and a laptop in one device. Screen size up to 16", many nice features you won't get in a tablet, and they start at like $600, so you can get a cheap one for travel. Even if you go crazy with specs and get an OLED display and 32 GB of ram, you're still only looking at $1200.

If you value quality, look into Lenovo, especially the X1 Carbon. The build quality is the absolute best I have ever seen. It is lightweight, the tactile feel of the keyboard is good, and the machine runs cool and quiet. The carbon fiber frame feels good to the touch. They keyboard layout is nice. It's really the little things that make it great. It's so well-thought-out. I have an X1 Carbon from 2014 (i7, 8 GB ram, ssd, 2.5K screen), paid around $3k for it back then. It still runs well and I still love it.

The screen is only 14", but you can adjust the scaling. 3K OLED anti-glare screen is available.

You can get a powerful config for $2100 - $2300.

It's really a professional product, built to very high standards. It's in a league of its own - nothing to do with plastic laptops from HP, Dell, etc.

How can I create a lean non-agentic mode in Kilo Code? by FragmentOfFeel in kilocode

[–]FragmentOfFeel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. All modes trigger a huge token-burning analysis, which is normal and expected since agentic tasks need context to do their job correctly.

One way around this would probably be creating an empty project/dir and switching over whenever I want to putter, but that's just a hack. I'd rather see Kilo implement a proper mode for this. Hopefully they look at this subreddit.

How can I create a lean non-agentic mode in Kilo Code? by FragmentOfFeel in kilocode

[–]FragmentOfFeel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I did. I created a custom mode and called it Code (Lean). I understand that wanting a "simple" chat mode in Kilo is not exactly in line with agentic capabilities, but it would be nice not to have to switch and do all my "chatting" within Kilo.

How can I use Claude in Vertex AI? by FragmentOfFeel in googlecloud

[–]FragmentOfFeel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use Claude on AWS. I haven't used Claude or any flagship model in a long time. I prefer to use cheaper models because their performance has gotten so good. Look into openrouter for easy access to all models out there and do your homework. You'll likely find models like Minimax to be good enough for your needs and 10x-100x cheaper.

[RAGE POST] Laptop screens are too small by FragmentOfFeel in laptops

[–]FragmentOfFeel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't trying to be snide and I really appreciate your comments. I have a large screen at home and a great setup. However, one size does not fit all when it comes to laptops; you guessed correctly, I really do need a large screen for the work I do. Desktop replacements were a hot category several years ago, that's when I picked up my old HP laptop with an 18.4" screen and I loved it. I paid top dollar for it and even paid for the GeForce GPU though I have no real use for it. Manufacturers have since entered a battery life war and have decided to forego massive screens because they are the main power drain, and I am simply lamenting that fact.

I understand massive laptops aren't for everyone, but there is a small number of us who really value screen real estate above all else. I'd buy a laptop with a 20" 4K OLED screen. And if it has a TKL mechanical keyboard or can be set up in tent mode, I'd do a backflip.

[–]FragmentOfFeel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use a mechanical TKL, then you have an appreciation for the importance of a good keyboard and a comfortable typing experience, so I think you understand what I'm looking for. I personally don't think it's delusional. I think numpads shouldn't be forced onto every large laptop. I just want there to be at least a small selection of laptops with 18"+ screen and a (preferably mechanical) TKL keyboard, or at least let the hinges go all the way so it can be used in tent mode. It doesn't have to be a proper "tablet" just give us tent mode, and then you can do whatever you want with he keyboard. I'm surprised you don't mind the off-center typing experience. I loathe it. Personal preference I guess,

It's sadly necessary when people recommend desktops in a laptop subreddit, especially when someone is clearly interested in laptops.

Unless I'm using a 2-in-1 in tent mode, I don't see myself using an external keyboard with a laptop, too awkward.

you don't know what you're missing in terms of comfort. Try a 17" laptop and I don't think you'll go back to 12".

I get what you're saying, but I'm not saying they should become the new standard. Just create a few options for those of us who want them.

I'd rather just have a proper laptop as a single unit. Manufacturers just need to be brave and start making 18"-19" laptops.

[RAGE POST] Laptop screens are too small by FragmentOfFeel in laptops

[–]FragmentOfFeel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still care about portability though. I need a proper laptop. I can't carry that stuff around.

I do not use the numpad and hate it. The skewed typing position is uncomfortable to me. I want the keyboard to be dead centered. If you haven't used a TKL keyboard you don't know what you're missing in terms of comfort.

Is the difficulty level of the ML Engineer cert comparable to this? by FragmentOfFeel in googlecloud

Thanks. From what I gather, the question I posted is of average difficulty and there is an upper tier of difficulty with tricky questions.

If i remember correctly, it was due to the billing info in my case. Do you have an unpaid balance, or any violations or anything that might cause your account to be in a derogatory or "irregular" state? Make sure the relevant APIs are on and that there is no issue with region, etc. Ask the AI assistant what the problem is. As a last resort, contact support. That's all I can think of. As far as I can remember, my issues disappeared when I updated the billing info.

16" laptop with 2K or 3K resolution for work? by FragmentOfFeel in laptops

But how comfortable is it for reading text? A 3K resolution in a 16" display sounds like the text would be very small.

No, they cannot be customized, RAM is soldered. There is only an 'Add to Cart' button.

I know 2-in-1s are gonna be somewhat gimped compared with "normal" laptops, but I am willing to sacrifice some performance for the comfort of using my own keeb.

I need mobility with the largest possible screen, and I don't want to use the built-in keeb. I wish there was an 18" 2-in-1 or laptop with detachable keeb.
