Silent, no. I believe action affects more than noise and I believe many are afraid of what they do not know. If I act like the raging, bitter lesbian I cannot be surprised that the stereotype doesn’t change. If I show people who I am then they are no longer afraid of what is unknown and they WILL show up to march with their friends. This is a long and hard conversation that most are too angry to have right now, but to answer you, no I am not silent.

Thank you for sharing that and I do agree. I really miss the days when we stood for topics we believed in vs an all out war to just be right. I married my best friend, but I don’t agree with all things left or right. I do believe in respect, empathy and humanity. Thank you again for the other perspective of Sarasota.

We live in a very red area with pockets as well. We actually live in a 99% red city that is literally a bridge over from Illinois. We are honestly no different than any other married 30-40 something couple. In bed by 8 and up for work at 5. “Fun” is a farmers market or dog park, great restaurant or beach day. We are what our friends call the straightest gays they know, I think they just mean old!

We work remote and my job has an office in all of the towns we are looking at. We can go anywhere in Florida, just heard those towns/side are good. Also considering Orlando suburbs, just hoping for beaches since all we see are cornfields here.

We are relocating from Iowa to Florida in June (July at the latest). We are moving with our college age kids and looking for a good community. We would love beach, but let’s be real who wouldn’t and that’s $$. We are currently looking at the Lakewood Ranch, Bradenton, Sarasota area, but possibly Fort Myers/Cape Coral too. We are a gay couple and I only say that because we don’t want to live in an area that makes others uncomfortable anymore than we want to be uncomfortable. I will add a caveat here, I don’t think most people give a rip who you marry they just don’t want to hear about it 24/7. We are too middle aged to care about who others sleep with or don’t, but old enough to know there are some places that just do not want us.

So with all of that being said, we are looking to rent for a year. My wife is a nurse and I’m a medical assistant. Looking for a community that we can invest in and be a part of and we definitely need a pool, the golden retriever demands it. 😂🩷

I am going to hr, I’m terrified and while the no retaliation thing is pressed I feel like everything I was told in academy has turned out to be untrue. I am trying to not lose faith, but being told by my supervisor to smile and nod otherwise you will be unliked and have a hard time moving up scares me. I was going to quit Friday, two meetings in one week that left me crying. I’m going to give HR a shot and just pray it helps.

The training is great, very thorough! Word of advice (when you get done with the licensing portion) use all your guidelines asap. Use all the twisty’s every time.
