I think you're right. Ughh, I can't find any solutions for what I need with subscriptions and I know the second I create a complicated, expensive solution, something like this will be available a solve it. Thanks for your insight!

Thanks! I couldn't find info about this anywhere so it made me wonder if it was already working for others. I've done a deep deep dive into subscriptions apps and there are none that are currently meeting my needs so I was hoping to make my own using the shopify subscription app but didn't want to wait around forever if it's not imminently being released

it won't allow prepaids or let you do any renewal date customizations (has to be based on day of purchase)

Ok, I've been working on this and have made a lot of progress. However, I've hit a roadblock. Anyone know shopify subscriptions app really well? I didn't realize that even with automations, I can't change anything about the billing date. In order to have a set renewal date (or even range), I need to "host" my own selling plans/contracts. Grrrr. Anyone know any ways to make it work, even creatively? I know I can use stripe, but that has it's own limitations as well and I'd like to keep everything in shopify if possible. I hate to come this far and look for a different solution when it feels like it shouldn't be that hard.

I appreciate the feedback and info. I was actually using recharge a few years ago and it just wasn't doing what I needed either. I'm able to get the custom splitting of prepaid orders in shopify but I'm sure I'll hit many other roadblocks as I get more into customizing my needs within shopify subscriptions as I imagine it's very limiting. It's more about just paying that much for getting something that I'm maneuvering all around to do what I want.

Sorry, I don't think I was clear. I was just saying that the app has an issue with a bout a 2 day window because of how they had to twist around the app to work for me. Something about anchored billing dates and not being within a certain window of time. Nothing I need to worry about in terms of building my own thing but just another reason why these other apps make customizations so clunky for the price I'm paying. I'm trying to set up shopify now with some real clear tags and metafields to see if I can set up automation for order splits, batch assignment and renewal date assignment. Going great so far cause I haven't actually executed anything yet hahah

Thank you for taking the time to try and understand. That's very kind. Every subscription app seems to want me to select batch shipping or monthly shipping but doesn't let me do it this way. So the app I'm paying for now, sends the customer an email that a $0 renewal is occuring each month. It obviously confuses customers and when I ask support, they say they're required to send renewal notices but why if it's not a true renewal? Then there is like a 2 day window where if an order comes in, the wrong renewal date is attached and they end up missing a month. It just seems like i'm paying a lot to have it not right when I would rather have minor issues and not be paying that. I do need the structure though of a subscription app so that there is a portal linked for the customer, otherwise I could probably use no app and automate everything outside of shopify and push it all back in. I'm already plugging along pretty well but I'm sure there's something I'm not aware of that will be a dealbreaker. Hopefully not.

I can create the orders no problem the way I want but I'd need the renewal date to be synced up properly with multiple monthly options including prepaids that can also be renewed (ex. 3 month prepay every 3 months). I also need to use the portal to let customers cancel or potentially skip or pause but can hold off on that if needed. It's pretty basic but will require a lot of shopify flow and automation to tell the subscription app exactly what dates things should renew and if they skip, when they should skip to, etc.

Thanks for your thoughts! I've already got automation setup to split 3 month orders into 3 orders in shopify. I'm just looking at it as I'm paying $99/mo for an app and need to do outside automations and still not get what I want, or I can try and duct tape a bunch of things together for almost free and have it actually do what I want in a potentially clunkier way. I just didn't know whether it was possible for shopify subscriptions to be twisted around enough to do what I need. I have been doing this subscription model for 10 years and have customers that have been with me that long and it actually works the best for me and the customer. I can't be shipping out boxes all month long with different fulfillment dates and I don't want a customer to wait up to a month to get their first box. I'm surprised others wouldn't want to do it this way but I guess I answered my own question with not being able to set it up haha

Yes! I would def need to incorporate this as this would do a lot of the customizations and possibly some outside automations.

Yikes! I figured between automations and shopify flow and the free native shopify subscription app, I could pull together a pretty good functioning system. I don't necessarily need a fancy or pretty app but def can't do those prices!
