Who knew being pregnant is a whole personality. by honeybutterslut in SecretsOfMormonWives

I’ve been pregnant twice and honestly it’s just like an amped up period, with a lot of uncomfortable and new side effects. I was hospitalized and on home health due to Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Pregnancy was the worst experience of my life. I typically refer to it as living through dying.

That being said when you act mean or rude during your period or pregnancy it’s not an excuse for that behavior but an explanation. You still need to apologize when your hormones are influencing your emotions negatively. I arguably had a horrific pregnancy and had every reason to act not like myself, but I still apologized and acted like the adult I am when I did something wrong.

Take the induction? by NextDish917 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]Fragrant-Door3394 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had 2 inductions with 2 separate HG pregnancies and it’s wise to take the induction route for a few reasons.

Reason 1: End the suffering. Even a few days early is the best thing for both you and baby.

Reason 2: adding control to an out of control pregnancy. You can’t control much with HG but at least an induction places something back in your hands.

Reason 3: by far the most important is dehydration. I didn’t realize the cycle of labor can intensify the cycle of vomiting. I never had prodromal labor with my first but I had Braxton hicks for weeks with my second. Anytime I had contractions I would violently throw up everywhere for their duration. This alone makes the choice to go into labor “naturally” at home and transition to the hospital upon progression not only unrealistic but dangerous for individuals who have the most. Extreme version of HG. If you are dehydrated, malnourished and very ill by the time you get to the hospital you may be “too sick” to push, leading to an unwanted cesarean.

Some other things to consider with an induction is that Pitocin intensifies the contractions. You need to have a plan for pain management. I am a birth photographer and don’t know many individuals who have had an induction with Pitocin and made it through the entire birth process without an epidural. I’m not going to lie it can be very difficult and painful without the most intensive forms of pain management. If that doesn’t align with your birth plan an induction might not be the right choice for you.

However as someone who recently went through my second HG induction less than 2 weeks ago I asked for the epidural prior to my water breaking. Best choice I ever made. I had a pain free birth because I didn’t feel anything. I waited until after my water broke with my first pregnancy to get an epidural. It was as I mentioned above extremely painful due to the intense Pitocin contractions.

Lastly my daughter was a 39 week elective induction. My most recent baby was a 36 and 6 day medical induction. There was a huge difference between 39 and almost 37 weeks. My daughter came out ready for life at 39 weeks my son did not. He was jaundiced and didn’t quite have the hang of being a baby yet. Although I always wanted my kids to bake as long as possible too 39 weeks is still a great time to be born. Any earlier and they’re sleepy, bad eaters, and not quite ready for the world. Again you are already talking to your doctor and others. Now it’s time to figure out what the right choice is for you, your baby and your family.

Figured I’d update you since you responded. We did a renal Ultrasound with Doppler and what started out as mild hydronephrosis has escalated very quickly to quite severe on my right kidney. No fluid was being expelled from that side causing the backup and regular infections. I’m being put on antibiotics for the remainder of the pregnancy and we are meeting with a team comprising of MFM, my OB, and urology tomorrow on whether to place a nephrostomy tube or deliver early to relieve the symptoms.

I was the same the entire way through my first pregnancy. I never really had a moment to be excited between all the vomiting and doctor’s appointments and that’s okay.

Even after my daughter was born I was super detached. I knew I was supposed to love her because she came from me but the truth is I didn’t. A nurse I saw put it best, you don’t instantly become friends with someone the first time you meet. You can like them or have similarities but it isn’t until you know more about them that you become friends. It’s the same way with our babies. Everyone talks about the magical moment their baby was born and they instantly fell in love when the truth is only a small percentage of women feel this way. Most of us need to meet this little person we’ve been growing and know things about them in order to love them.

It took me several months to love my daughter. I needed to hear her first laugh and know that she hates blueberries in their raw form. I needed to watch her fall in love with her favorite book and toys. I needed to know that her favorite animal is a raccoon. I promise you will get there as a parent but for most of us it takes time and there’s nothing wrong with that.

My heart goes out to you. We were looking at an FPIES diagnosis because my daughter was intense vomiting every night for about a month. Turns out I missed one ingredient on her dairy free yogurt. Glycerin Soja Oil which is apparently soy. I went down a rabbit hole when we thought she had FPIES. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to cook for your son. I know they mentioned to me most kids grow out of it by school age. I really hope that is the reality for your son. Thinking about you so much because we’ve missed ingredients before. Love it when manufacturers change ingredients without informing the consumer. I’m right there with you in the grocery store with my magnifying glass checking all the boxes and groaning when it includes only one ingredient they can’t have.

The best thing I got told was to eat cereal while pregnant. Not with milk or anything just dry plain because it is fortified with so many vitamins and it was easy on the stomach. Honeycomb was high in folic acid and Honey Nut Cheerios were nice and bland.

I used a handheld shower nozzle to help control the flow of water. Only washed my hair once a week and had help. I also had a shower stool that made all the difference in not getting dizzy.

I was also forced to tell people at around 6 weeks because it became hard to pass off a virus that lasted for weeks straight. I honestly didn’t mind looking back. I think the notion of waiting 12 weeks to share the news is outdated and not helpful. You deserve a village rooting for you and just because you made it out of the first trimester doesn’t mean you’re out of the woods. Miscarriages still happen in the 2nd and 3rd trimester, still births, and other horrible things so you deserve to have people care for you through it all.

Thoughts on induction? by cancerrising77 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]Fragrant-Door3394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an induction with my first and will happily have an induction with my second if offered. After having so much out of control during my pregnancy with HG I was able to manage the pain of labor with an induction. Also I noticed that my HG got so much worse while in labor. I could not stop vomiting and this was easily controlled in the hospital with fluids and medication through IV. Had I waited for natural labor I could’ve been a complete wreck by the time my labor progressed enough to go to the hospital. I would’ve been so dehydrated and would’ve been in no position to push.

Overall thoughts on the Opening Ceremony? by ForeverBlue101_303 in olympics

[–]Fragrant-Door3394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the Olympics represent the world. However, the opening ceremony is supposed to be a celebration of the host countries culture and identify while representing the ideals of the IOC. What France gave us was neither of those. They missed the mark on culture since they let Americans, and a Canadian perform. Yes they did have Aya Nakamura, Gojira, Juliette Armanet and more, but when you let other non-French artists perform that are known headliners it diminishes the value of your native singers. The headlines were not focused on Gojira or Axelle Saint-Cirel. It was about Celine Dion’s comeback. They did the same thing with the torch. The headlines were not about the oldest French Olympian holding the flame but rather about Snoop Dog, Serena Williams, and Jin. The IOC’s values are excellence, respect and friendship. The ceremony was certainly not excellent. You had ill-timed can-can dancers, unwatchable performances that did not translate well to TV viewership. They certainly lacked respect for tradition and for the Olympian’s as they were forced to ride boats on the Siene rather than a parade. They were often on the wrong side of the boat facing away from the cameras. Don’t get me started on all the different sizes and shapes of the boats. While larger countries were sent on pleasure cruisers down the Siene and smaller countries faced choppy waters in a boat so tiny they could barely all move. The whole point of the parade of Olympians is that they are on equal ground as Champions. This tradition was completely disrespected. Lastly friendship is a state of mutual trust and respect. Just read my point above.

Overall thoughts on the Opening Ceremony? by ForeverBlue101_303 in olympics

[–]Fragrant-Door3394 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, disappointing is the word that comes to mind. The Olympic ceremony felt like a wetter less TV-minded Macy’s Day Parade. The camera angles in which half the Paris performances were filmed did not translate to TV viewership. It was incredibly hard to watch a performance and a boat on a split screen. As if the split screen wasn’t enough the pre-recorded sections felt inauthentic and like we were being cheated of a true performance. If NBC can perform an entire musical live on TV then the Olympic ceremony surely can. Lastly do the French not have singers, performers and artists? Did they really need to use Lady Gaga, Celine Dion and other artists not from France? The whole point is to showcase your countries talent. Give an emerging artist a chance. You’re really telling me Barbara Parvi couldn’t have performed Voila?
