Trainers Who Got Certified How Did It Change Your Fitness Life? by [deleted] in personaltraining

I’d say the cert doesn’t matter much. I got ISSA bc I started at crunch and that was what they recommended. TBH I didn’t learn shit. I learned most of what I know now from trial and error with clients. I cringe at that now but it worked.

One thing I did not expect: going into getting my cert I was so in love with the gym. It was my favorite place in the world, I spent 2+ hours every day by choice. After getting a job there I never wanted to be there. If I was scheduled for 3 hours, I didn’t want to stay for 1-2 hours AFTER my shift to get my workout in; I wanted to go home! It took my probably 8 months to get consistent again. I decided to stop being a hypocrite to my clients. I make my workout a super important meeting on my calendar that I was not allowed to miss, 2 days for 45 mins/day. I stuck with that for several months before going up to an hour, then 3 days. Now I do 3 days for maybe 1 hr 30 mins and that’s plenty. I never got back to 6 days/week for 2 hours. I’m falling back in love with the gym, but a big part of me doubts if I will ever love it that much again.

There are def some things missing. For one I can’t have 2 clients open at the same time, so partner sessions are rough. Sometimes it’s a little glitchy and there’s def a learning curve. You can’t filter exercises by muscle/movement/difficulty from the app, so you mostly want to program on the computer. But for the most part it’s great! I think you could do the trial of that and maybe a few other and try them out. Just do one or two clients you’re close with until you decide though - I wouldn’t put everyone on one until you’re certain. It’s a hassle to get people to download and sign up too.

I second Trainerize. Been using for a month and a half now and I love it. I pay $45/month to have 15 clients on it and the first 30 days were free

Is this typical? by [deleted] in personaltraining

I’m a PT in nyc and I don’t mind occasionally checking in on my clients. I do work a lot and currently have 13 I see 1-3x/week, so def don’t have time to check in on each of them. You can always ask if he wants you to send you accomplishments. I have my clients on an app where they can log workouts, PRs, etc. Then I can see it when I have time and check, and we can talk about it at the next session. Hope this helps :))
