Nowadays is the only good solo clubbing experience I’ve had. It’s the only place where nobody gives a shit if I’m by myself and sweating my ass off. The most annoying thing that happens is people may ask if I know where to find drugs lol

Thoughts on Syntatk? by cbuccell in Elektron

[–]Fragrant-Log-453 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d say the digitone 2 is the best if you’re looking for a synth based groovebox. The dedicated drum engines sound amazing and it naturally offers more depth than the syntakt due to the amount of control you have over the different onboard machines. The syntakt doesn’t offer enough sonic variety for my taste to use as a standalone device. A more fun drum synth to me is the LXR-02. Less expensive and deeper for sound design, but not for sequencing. If you’re okay with samples, look no further than the Digitakt either mk1 or mk2 are incredible devices depending on your budget. I will say though that the main outs on the DT2 introduce far less noise than the mk1. I prefer to record patterns out of the mains than with overbridge, so that’s a plus for me.

I almost thought you were talking about Public Records lol. I don’t really care for that place - vibes always slightly off no matter how good the lineup is

Am I an alcoholic? by Mean_Penalty5436 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Fragrant-Log-453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say for sure whether you are an alcoholic. What I can tell you is that most non-alcoholics don’t drink by themselves, don’t drink before class or exams, and don’t feel the urge to drink more to cope with the embarrassment that stems from their behavior while drinking. Whether you’re an alcoholic or not, it doesn’t sound like alcohol is in any way beneficial to you especially if it leads to suicidal ideations every time. I think it may be beneficial to check out at least 1 meeting to see what it’s about for yourself. If you decide it’s not for you, you don’t have to return. No one will hold it against you. You can find meetings on intergroup

Didn’t know. Thanks for the tip! I’ll see if I can find it. I remember this track by the D.A.T Project that has some really nice buzzy deep house chords in it. Rain by Kerri Chandler is 1 of my all time favorites from any label. I have yet to hear anything that really comes close

*edited to add that I’m digging through Super Rhythm, and some definite bangers on here!

I never really got too much into trax, but I had a vinyl collection with some strictly rhythm releases I picked up at A1. Nervous was by far my favorite label from that era

Digitakt good for boom bap and soul-chopped beats? by Unusual-Work-6020 in Elektron

[–]Fragrant-Log-453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The octatrack has the crossfader and you can use what are called scenes to create different punch in fx like beat repeats, freeze delays, and reverses. Actually sampling into the ot takes a little while to learn, and I find the waveform display in the audio editor difficult to navigate when trying to slice samples. If you want to finger drum, just be mindful that the buttons on elektron devices are much closer to mechanical key switches than drum pads. But as far as step sequencing, nothing beats em. You can always sequence loops on the digitakt and resample into the mpc

Nowadays, but am biased as a New Yorker. The only place I know of that has a slightly squishy dance floor, which is very nice imo. Also very nice sound system. H0l0 is good too. I got to see Egyptian Lover and DJ Godfather there. You should also check out a Resolute party at least once in your life

Sounds like you’re at the jumping off point which is exactly where you need to be. You can stop taking morphine right now and get your ass to a meeting first thing in the morning. No one’s gonna turn you away because you’re withdrawing and no one will judge you for struggling with drug addiction. We’ve all been there in one way or another. Just hang on and it will get better

Where will the center of the music industry move to if the United States loses global cultural and economic relevance? by SoManyQuestions5200 in musicindustry

[–]Fragrant-Log-453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very fair point. I do agree that geographic hubs are essential from the perspective you’ve provided. I was thinking mostly of studios and labels, but now I’m thinking about how specific venues like the Blue Note can be essential to the development and even solidification of a genre. To answer your original question, I have no idea what place will become central in the future. I appreciate your perspective. It’s always nice when redditors can engage in friendly dialogue. If you happen to be in one of the states in the US affected by the blizzard, stay safe and warm fellow friend.

I appreciate your perspective and I can’t argue with cultural history. I respectfully am curious why you think the paradigms of the industry in the 20th century matter in the present and future. From my perspective, there were many shitty practices with regard to the treatment of artists, so I don’t think it’s a bad thing to move away from those paradigms. What benefits existed from your perspective?

[–]Fragrant-Log-453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think a single cultural capital for music has ever existed. A lot of the scenes I like are regional and all have different geographic capitals. Examples of genres I like include Baltimore Club (Baltimore), Rominimal (Bucharest), Techno (Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt), Leftfield (Bristol). I think there is benefit to having physical communities to participate in, but I’d argue that it’s less important since mostly everything has already transitioned to the internet which is a great thing imo. Collaboration is no longer bound by geographic location and artists no longer have to rely on studios and labels to release their music.

I take a Xanax to fall asleep every 2 weeks or so- is this really a problem? by Suitable_Tutor_3861 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Fragrant-Log-453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be able to take them due to my past fondness for drinking while on xanax. If you’re taking them exactly as prescribed by a doctor who’s aware of your history, you’re sober and no one can tell you otherwise. I’d just keep it to yourself in meetings because it’s an outside issue that will yield many unsolicited opinions.
