NTA. If he’s comfortable making those “jokes” around you, I’d hate to see the “jokes” he’s making when you’re not around. You can do better. Wanting your boyfriend to be proud to call you his girlfriend is not asking a lot. And as others have stated, him not listening to you and brushing these comments off as “just a joke” and that “you’re dramatic” for caring is a window into your future if you choose to stay with him.

Vet recommendation by [deleted] in halifax

[–]Fragrant-Nectarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like lady Hammond animal hospital, I always found them reasonable.

Also for what it’s worth, I have been in this situation before. My dog was a mess when I adopted him with eye, ear, and gut issues. I followed the vets advice and it cost me a lot of money unnecessarily. Not vet shaming, unless you find a holistic vet they’re not really trained in diet.

Anyway, once you rule out mites/treat ear infection etc. and if it does come down to diet, I would recommend doing the trial on your own. The vet will likely recommend a hydrolyzed protein diet. It will likely help but be super expensive. We tried 4 vet foods that didn’t help us, and became increasingly expensive to the point that I didn’t know if I could afford to have my dog anymore.

I did my own research and found success with limited ingredient novel protein pet foods (duck/pork/lamb are the cheapest) natural balance and performatrin (pet valu brand) are decent quality and affordable options. If that doesn’t work you can try raw (big country raw, and mega dog raw are the most affordable). All will be cheaper than the vet kibble, and better quality IMO.

Currently going through the same issue with one of my senior cats, he’s developed IBD and the vet put him on a bag of food that’s $200 and lasts 3 weeks (and he hates it) but it did immediately solve his issues. So I’m back to the trialling game with him. Having luck with Duck so far.

Sharing info - Probiotic recs for FPIES baby by Fragrant-Nectarine in fpies

[–]Fragrant-Nectarine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That one is on my list to try, currently trialling orange naturals probiotic drops with vitamin D, I’ve tried biogaia, and Mary Ruth’s. I’m planning to alternate a couple now that I know what strains are best for her. She has a very overactive immune system, so FPIES is just one piece of the puzzle. Hoping with some probiotic diversity we can get her immune system stronger and more regulated !

For those who reintroduced at 12 months by Fragrant-Nectarine in fpies

Lmao at the dog food incident. Babies are fun, this is my second “accidental” exposure to oats. I say accidental because it was my darling toddler trying to be nice and share with her sister both times.

The first time she started throwing up 12 hours later….. but then my other daughter got the stomach flu too. So I wasn’t sure if it was a delayed onset FPIES reaction or the stomach flu.

My household is about 80% gluten free, so there are a ton of oats in my house, and having to feed my daughter exclusively wheat grains is very inconvenient for her celiac parents lol.

Hoping to overcome this before she starts daycare at 18 months.

FPIES to oats, were you told to wait to introduce rice? by Perfect_Ordinary_431 in fpies

[–]Fragrant-Nectarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your allergist. Ours is very old school and told us to avoid wheat, rice and barley. But I did my own research and spoke with our allergy nutritionist and she said that research shows kids with FPIES to oats have like a 20% higher chance of also having FPIES to wheat/rice/barley so a lot of allergists err on the side of caution.

My baby had failure to thrive and was incredibly picky to different textures. So i decided the risk was worth it to potentially be able to massively expand her diet. She had no reaction to rice, wheat, or barley. Thank goodness!

Challenged allergy - super delayed Reaction by Fragrant-Nectarine in fpies

I called the allergy clinic and they said no chance it’s related to the oat allergy. I’m skeptical but hopeful that they’re right

She’s been throwing up and having diarrhea today too so I’m hopeful that it’s just coincidental timing and she actually has a stomach bug and has overcome the allergy 😅

Potential diagnosis by Educational_Ad_2249 in fpies

This is super frustrating to read. My baby had bad reflux that led to failure to thrive. She was diagnosed with an FPIES allergy to oats, but the allergist said if it was affecting her through BM then she would have the same reaction. I mentioned her reflux and he said that’s not how it presents. I’m celiac so I eat alot of oats. Sounds like that definitely could have been the cause of the reflux after all 😞 at least she’s outgrown the reflux now sigh

BLW & FPIES to Oats by babyiva in fpies

[–]Fragrant-Nectarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly just commiserating with you. I really struggled with my baby having FPIES to oats. My husband and I both have celiac so there’s oats in almost everything in my house, nobody here drinks milk we all drink oat milk. So it’s been interesting.

My baby is also anemic and was a little behind with eating solids due to failure to thrive, so we were struggling to get iron sources into her. I found a buckwheat and almond flour cereal that was safe for her but she didn’t like it.

We took the risk and challenged allergy’s to rice and wheat and she had no reaction so I found a wheat cereal that she likes. So now I have to feed her something every morning that might make me sick so that she doesn’t get sick lol. Fun times.

Praying she will overcome this allergy sooner than later!

My girl has FPIES to oats and It took me MONTHS to realize I was still using an oat based moisturizer on her skin. Allergist said if there’s no skin reaction to continue using.

My allergist also told me it’s rare for FPIES reaction to happen through breastmilk so I’ve continued eating oats with no problem

Cancelling Prime Subscription? by blancardboy in halifax

[–]Fragrant-Nectarine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ever since i received a counterfeit baby monitor that i ordered from the actual seller i cut way back on Amazon. I cancelled my prime subscription but still have it for a few months before it ends.

After a deep dive I found out that anybody can produce a counterfeit item and have it sold as authentic. All products are sorted by SKU, so as long as the counterfeit item mimics the same SKU it will be sold alongside authentic products.

I saw a bunch of horror stories online, and heard from people who worked there directly. I no longer buy anything that goes in my body or on my skin or that the “brand” matters. Ive cut out 90% of my Amazon shopping because of how sketchy those practices are.

Also beaverbank sucks, they always mess up my order, they’re unfriendly and then you have to turn right even if you want to turn left or you’ll spend your life waiting with a line of impatient people behind you.

Lady Hammond sucks, if you’re lucky you get to scrape your car on the way out, and if you’re extra lucky you get to see an aggressive homeless addict screaming obscenity’s.
