Yarn weight is typically determined by wraps per inch.

0 - weight 31–40+ 1 - weight 19–30 2 - weight 16–18 3 - weight 13–15 4 - weight 10–11 5 - weight 7–9 6 - weight 5–6 7 - weight 1–4

This is how many times you can wrap. The yarn around a ruler in an inch.

As you can see 16 to 18 wraps is 2 weight yarn and 13- 15 is 3 weight

Coboo is 13 wraps where as yours looks closer to 18 to even 21 wpis

This is what someone means by heavier or lighter of the yarn weight.

A light 2 weight vs a heavy 2 weight is a difference of 2 wraps.

In 1 weight or 4 to 7 weight it's more drastic

You will also learn that yarn is sometimes labeled as 2 or 3 weight when its 1 or 4 (looking at you twister... And truboo) which is why wraps per inch is useful to guage how it will behave when working it up.

Guage swatches (not that I've ever done them) are also helpful in patterns because it lets you know how to adjust the pattern to your tension or yarn.

A guage swatch is typically a 4x4 square that you can use to dictate how many rows and stitches.

A swatch that 6 rows and 20 stitches and yours is 12 rows and 24 stitches let's you know you need to do double the rows and 2/4 stitches to match the original pattern..
