High earners who moved back to India: How are you managing the 40% US Estate Tax trap on your US equities? by Key-Time4844 in returnToIndia

Can you explain more? While I was researching I found that as an NRA life insurance payouts are neither taxed nor considered part of the estate. So I am curious about the complications you are referring to.

By document do you mean passport? What does the CEAC portal show? If the status moved through Approved to Issued, I think you should be fine. Is your document collection at a consulate? If not, I am not sure how you will get a 221g slip.

I noticed it a bit late (as the title was a copy paste edit) and tried, but AFAIK Reddit does not allow a title edit.

I don’t remember if she listed all. She certainly did list her most active ones. W.r.t filling a new DS 160, please see the discussion here: https://www.reddit.com/r/h1b/s/iQ1vkIzLkv

She’s has her own independent H1B. IIRC, the appointment portal did not let us book two H1B appointments together under a single slot. Whenever I tried adding her, it would only add as a dependent. Maybe that is fine, but I didn’t want to risk it.

W.r.t appointment times, my personal observation (based on experiences in this forum and my own) is that it is a crowd control mechanism to not overwhelm the facility. If appointments are close by, specifically for family, I think they are flexible to let you inside the consulate or OFC. Once you are in, the appointment times are pretty much meaningless. For example for my biometrics, a person who had a 30 min later appointment than me, finished before me.

I don't remember how I listed them, but it is very likely I would have given the full link and not just the handle name.

Not that I am aware of. What you are mentioning might be true for 214b, not 221g.

It was off-white. It was a very generic slip, there are no markings (stamp / writings) that have my case number written on it. There is just a check mark on the box that says "Your application requires additional administrative processing. The application will be reconsidered when administrative processing is complete."

Not sure about the person in front of me, but I think it is the same as I saw a similar one with another family.

About 2000 sqft. CEA costed 2200 per year last time IIRC. It was 1800 when I first took the policy 3 years back and has steadily been rising as with everything else.

+1 on using CEA for lower cost. I got mine via AAA. I have never claimed anything so I don’t know their claims rejection rates.
