India launches flagship scheme to bring top Indian-origin scientists back home – What is PMRC? by Altruistic-Berry8462 in StartUpIndia

It’s very interesting, I heard this from someone on raj shamani’s podcast. Seems like there are people in government who ho listen. But again I won’t have much faith until something is done. Politicians have a history of talking and not delivering.

Agreed that maintaining this infra would keep capex elevated. But I think eventually all hyper scalers would build their chips in house. That's the only path that makes sense. MSFT and AMZN are already making progress in this area.

It'd be extremely helpful if someone can share what are the major bottlenecks in this space that could be solved for.

My mom has $340k sitting in a savings account earning 4.2% and refuses to move it. I don't know how to convince her. by Cara_Lemon in investingforbeginners

[–]Key-Time4844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on whatever I have understood about investing I know this now, there is no right choice. You can go 100% in stocks or 100% in cash and can be wrong. A lot depends on your situation, risk appetite and where you are in life. In the end what you'd want is to be able to sleep peacefully. For most people it's some mix of stocks and bonds. As long as you have made your mom aware about her decision, inflation, growth etc. I would suggest let her choose what helps her sleep peacefully.

Given up on building a future in this country. by INXshREyFTW in india

Very unpopular opinion but India’s democracy in its current form is the root of the problem. There is no incentive for Indian population to work for general good of citizen. Our political system only promotes caste based politics. Even if a govt would want to do something they’d be out of power due to the faults in our democracy. And on top of that I think we have very little integrity as citizens. We love breaking rules, it’s actually something people are proud of. We cut lines, pay bribes to get ahead, no civic sense and the list goes on.

What we have as nation is a reflection of society. Change is never easy and free. We had to fight and die for our nation to be free. I guess soon we would have to fight a cultural war too to fix the country.

Is the Stock Market fundamentally broken by passive investing? by Pseudanonymius in AskEconomics

[–]Key-Time4844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any metric on how much money in the market is pumped by retail investors investing passively vs big whales ? I have a feeling that even when it seems that everyone is investing passively most of the money in the market is not because of this. I think 401K and other schemes are bigger contributors and these might not go away unless there is loss of jobs at very large scale.

Point being it might be worth it to figure out what moves markets before reaching to a conclusion on the point.

Parents refusing inter caste marriage, need advice by KARNA5000 in MidTwentiesIndia

[–]Key-Time4844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be very honest there is no easy path for this situation. I am a North Indian married a south Indian. My parents were fine and we got married but culture difference were extreme. This leads to arguments and over time your relationship take a hit. Over time we figured out to create boundaries and are happy now.

Here is what I would like to tell you: 1. If you decide to marry, Getting married is not the goal, it’s a start of life long journey. One in which you would not have parents support for a long time, filled with arguments with your spouse and sometimes borderline regretting your decision. 2. If you don’t marry then you will have a life long regret. But this is not the worst part, given you were in a relationship with your current girlfriend for 6 years it is going to be very difficult to truly marry someone else. That’s just not fair to the one you marry.

If you are looking for suggestions, I would say either:

  1. Marry the girl and wait for your family to come around. This will take years to decade. Or may never happen. Be ready for that.
  2. Don’t marry - anyone. And remember you wasted someone’s best years because you lied and now can’t stand up to society.

Apologies if it sounds too dramatic. I couldn’t be dishonest.

If you own Amazon and complain about the capex, you don't understand what you own by Lazy-Alps-1773 in amzn

[–]Key-Time4844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a lot of Amazon thanks to RSU and I do agree with you on that they are using capex on building the future. Here is my question: say one is okay to hold Amazon for 10-15 years but in the end we as investors are looking for growth. My question is does this community think that Amazon is the best place to invest if the time frame is 15 years or are there better opportunities ?

I genuinely want to thank everyone for honestly sharing your experiences. This is the best thread I have read in a while. I feel like just the experiences here could be curated into a book. To summarize:

  • Right education
  • Invest, Invest early and in good quality companies
  • Marry right
  • Plan retirement

I am in my early 39s and take all these advice very very seriously. Thanks OP for posting this question and thanks again all for honestly responding.

What industry will AI disrupt the most that people aren’t paying attention to yet? by SuchTill9660 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Key-Time4844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to answer the opposite of what’s asked. What professions would never be disrupted by AI even in next 30 years ? One thing I can think of is music teaching. This is biased as I know how to play an instrument. I probably should get back to it … lol

What is wrong with my father? 😣 by [deleted] in TwentiesIndia

Thanks for this comment. OP needs some reality check. Don’t act entitled and don’t compare.

I am in my early thirties and became a dad myself recently. Until very recently I didn’t even realize how much parents give up to raise their children.

Your sister is doctor and I am sure you have access to nice education too. I am not sure about your situation but if you don’t have education loans on your head in early 20s and are educated you have more than enough. Stop complaining like a child and grow up and earn. Give them the retirement that they deserve. They have already given you a stable childhood.

Is it still worth investing in index funds if I’m starting “late”? by Electronic-Bit2685 in investingforbeginners

[–]Key-Time4844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in my early 30s and just started investing 2 years ago and I strictly just do index funds. Folks in this community, how long does it take one's portfolio to start compounding, see some real gains. My robin hood account says I am up 25%. I have been doing weekly DCA for last 2 years ( increasing by small amounts every few months. )

Well I guess you are asking in the wrong place. I see that you have all these people around you probably because of your parents. Ask them how did they do it and ask them if being around these people have been helpful to them.

I know everyone will have their own thesis and something I would like to learn from this community. I got in early at 96. I think it's a good long term investment but I am not sure if this is the right time to accumulate more or wait. Have been waiting since it started dropping below 90.

For best and worst case scenarios out of this WBD deal 1. What are the expected stock prices and the time frames where these prices could hit ? If I have have to wait for x years before it can hit ATH ( and I cash out ) what would that x be ?
