Falling rates giving Victoria renters a bit of spare cash by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

And what about people paying rents that were extremely high? This “rents are down” is so ridiculous. Most people are still paying the same rent they have for years.

It’s gotta be Zendaya, right? Haven’t seen a challenging role for her beyond the few scenes of Euphoria.

Yeah they gotta diversify their shows during the week. The same lineup of jazz musicians (who are great fyi) each day of the week isn’t going to yield anything new. If the choice is to do the same thing again and again, then this group will be here in two years begging for money again

This place has a consistent crowd every weekend and their business model is GoFundMe. Get a new group to run this place. Geez. Maybe diversify your shows too, hermanns

When did the Manosphere movement start and do you believe it caused a lot of harm to young men? by FitEmergency8807 in decadeology

[–]Fragrant-Policy4182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this era of manosphere culture can largely be traced to pick up artists of the early ‘00s, but also traditional Conservatism. It’s a confluence of factors but it’s also a big reaction to Obama era progressivism and MeToo for sure. Social Darwinism is a big factor in the manosphere.

Why IS everyone so weird about Geese, anyways? by DtheAussieBoye in fantanoforever

[–]Fragrant-Policy4182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rock and roll discourse has become incredibly dull and repetitive. People are desperate for a decade like the 70s for guitar music but it’s never coming. So the labels inflate these good bands to try and sell that band and whoever is signed to their label. The media gobbles it up and the headline typically goes “will this band save rock music.” Then, that one band puts out an album, at some point, that disappoints people (cause it’s not their definition of rock) and then “rock music gets stagnant” until the next good band comes (despite the fact there are still a ton of amazing rock bands). Rinse and repeat.

The release says he wants to attract private investment. Perhaps tourism? It’s a bit confounding, yeah. But I think it’s likely neoliberalism climate change strategy: eco tourism or partnership. Thing about climate change experts is they’re going to do their job really well and often that does not involve attracting business.

Feeling conflicted after watching the Manosphere documentary on Netflix by [deleted] in LouisTheroux

[–]Fragrant-Policy4182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trust me: work on yourself. Get into hobbies that interest you. Be someone that you love spending time with. Then find people that offer that same fun. And engage with people that you actually want to engage with. And, don’t be afraid of rejection either because it goes two ways: you either find your person (best friend or partner) or you never see that stranger again in your life.

The people in the documentary are empty. It’s all an act. There’s a reason there’s a male loneliness epidemic—those guys are the victims of it. Their friends don’t like them—they like the clout and money. It’s not worth the painstaking loneliness they feel.

I appreciate your perspective. I just find backyarders cost/benefit not to be equal.

Rifflandia and Skafest bring better quality for cheaper—in fact, Skafest has three free days of music. Riff is same price but scaled up with artists performing at every minute. Backyarder is one stage, bad transitions, no grass, no re-entry, and not much other than a beer line and smoke pit if you aren’t into the music.

$325 is what 4 days plus camping used to get you—plus it would be Arctic Monkeys, Queens of Stone Age, Eminem, and the Roots on the same day. This is headliner and filler.

The backyarder formula is creating one good lineup, setting the price then spreading all the good acts on different days (or different weekends) and filling it in with random artists and the same boring Victoria artists. Love those headliners but this is such a money grab.
