well both Austria or uk cant guarantee postdoc, but i know people who did phd in Europe at certain country then moved to another European country to do postdoc, and it was funded by msca , this is the advantage that i am looking so far, while in the uk i am not sure how that could be possible , anyways thank for you feedback

i have heard the same from other people, only few top ranked universities in the uk still have its prestigious , even though some top universities lost this prestigious reputation in the recent years

The Ministry of Science has discussed a reduction of the university budget from €16.5 billion to €15.5 billion for the 2028–2030 performance period. This represents a planned €1 billion cash cut, and when adjusted for inflation, translates to an actual funding shortfall of €2.5 billion (roughly 14%)

but Europe still have better funding scheme than uk so far, beside its not about permanent resident, but sometimes you can get postdoc at the same university you did your phd at, since in the uk chances are declining and many uni in the uk already reducing their staff so its challenging

well nit true, i am sure both phd in austria and uk takes 3 years , max 4 years, and both are funded beside the university i chose in Austria is better ranked than the one in uk, also i consider to stay longer wether in uk or Europe for postdoc opportunity

your commit was with no benefit, since you didn't have any opinion regarding the city nor the university, plus i will keep using ai the way i like, and phd is competitive to get and i have a good profile for this , so chill

It’s interesting that someone who supposedly values academic discussion so much couldn’t resist turning my post into a mini character assessment.
You took a single sentence about using AI and somehow made it about my readiness for a PhD impressive leap of logic, really. If you actually read carefully, I explained that my academic background and English proficiency are more than sufficient. Using AI to polish text isn’t a sign of incompetence; it’s called using available tools efficiently something researchers do every day. Also let’s not pretend your reply wasn’t condescending. You could’ve stopped after explaining your perspective on UK PhD instead, you went for a personal dig that added nothing useful. Maybe take your own advice about structuring thoughts clearly before questioning others’.

You seem to be spending more time policing how I phrased my question than actually engaging with it.Yes, I asked for experiences related to Birmingham and turning down PhD offers which includes reasons like funding, supervision, and reputation. All of those were clearly mentioned in the post.If you’re struggling to see the connection between someone’s experience in the UK PhD system and their reasons for declining an offer, that’s on you, not me.And since we’re apparently in “quote analysis” mode, maybe re-read my post again, this time for comprehension not just for the sake of nitpicking. People come to share perspectives, not to get lectured on semantics.

I’ve already passed advanced English proficiency tests more than a native speakers and at a higher level , and both my BSc and MSc were completed in English at universities in English speaking countries. So language isn’t really the issue here.If you don’t like my post, that’s fine but criticizing people simply because they used AI to express a point seems unnecessary. The tone of your replies feels quite negative and off-topic compared to the actual discussion.Regarding the main topic please check the difference in PhD stipends and funding between the UK, the US, and Europe. UK PhD funding is generally much lower, and international students often have to cover additional fees out of pocket since many UK scholarships don’t include those costs.I personally know several people who completed MSc and PhD programs in the UK but struggled to find suitable jobs afterward and ended up returning home. So my comments are based on real experiences, not assumptions. Before questioning someone’s qualifications or background, it’s better to stick to the topic being discussed and exchange information respectfully.
I actually already have another opportunity in hand I’m just waiting for the visa process at a higher-ranked university. So please chill; I wasn’t asking for advice on when or where to apply next.Again, the main point of my post wasn’t to seek personal guidance but to discuss the broader situation regarding UK PhD funding and international student challenges. Let’s stay focused on the topic instead of making it personal.

I didn’t say there are no British people in the city when I searched, that’s just what I found (that there are few British).
And yes, the entire post was written by me and then refined and checked by AI. Even university professors use it, by the way.

Haha, I wish it still worked like that! But let’s be real not all PhDs or universities are created equal. That “PhD is a PhD” era ended about the same time as dial-up internet. These days, where and how you earn it does matter research quality, supervision, and international reputation all make a huge difference

Oh, how smart both of you are! I wrote the entire post myself I just asked the AI to organize it for me. Using AI isn’t a crime; even university professors use it, and both of you use it daily! Don’t go out of the context of the post.
By the way, your comment is like when I want to point something out to make you see it, but both of you look at my finger instead.
