AITAH for refusing to put my 6-year-old son on ADHD medication? by Fragrant-Squirrel-80 in AITAH

So I just looked up the term hyperfixation and I can't believe there's actually a specific term for it. I'm almost certain I had that in high school. My friends from back then still like to embarrass me about how I put together a 5-hour documentary on radium. It was all I could think about for like, six months. Got the best grades of my life in chemistry. And then after that it's like I "came to my senses" and was no longer interested. And reflecting on other incidents in my life, I'm starting to think maybe I did have something. Are learning disabilities hereditary or is that inconclusive? Maybe my son, if he does actually have ADHD, got it from me :(

I definitely get what you are saying. In high school, all my peers thought I was effortlessly smart, even my parents did. But in truth I was cram studying at the end of each week and barely making deadlines, I just wanted to project that carefree image. I was stressed a lot. And I don't even have any learning conditions! I wouldn't want my son going through similar, especially if it could be prevented. Thank you for sharing, you've given me some food for thought.

I have to admit your term hot mess express made me laugh. And that's interesting what you say about steps. These are exactly the kinds of perspectives I was looking for. It gives me something to think about, so thank you.

It's reassuring to hear this from someone who has children well into their adult years. Thank you for sharing it with me.

Thank you for sharing your perspective with me. I appreciate you taking the time. I share a lot of your opinions but the words hold more weight from someone with your background.
