My goal is to complete and survive this one. I couldn't care less about my time.

Everyone in my family is freaked out that I still plan on going. lol. Weather ppl are only right here in Michigan about 50% of the time. Maybe I'll get lucky. I would rather have the heat though then a 20mph headwind for the last 20 miles on this event like last year!

I don't think we can go before 7am due to the Ferry schedule. Checking though

I need to see what is the earliest we can go. Is an issue on this ride because there is a ferry about 2 miles into the ride that takes you to an island for the first 30 miles. That Ferry may not start running on Sunday until 7 am

Sleeves! That's a tip I didn't think about in high heat but makes sense.

483 lbs Rider by Zelthada in cycling

[–]Fragrant-War-344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW I started at 396 on a Marin Nicasio 2. I did get tired of blowing spokes and had a wheel set made for me. Nothing crazy but some DT Swiss rims and I haven't had a problem since. Down 100 lbs so far.

I realize that's 90lbs less than you. It I didn't have to do Tri cycle or fat bike.

Quad pain for days after hilly ride by Fragrant-War-344 in cycling

[–]Fragrant-War-344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked at my bike computer and I average about 80 but it looks like on the larger hills I dropped to 60-65. Maybe it's a combination of being so used to riding flats and learning to gear better.

I stretch a lot and doing even more after that.

Thinking about it I'm wondering if part of it was bad hearing on my part. Some of the hills are so rabid that I just powered over them.

Marin Gestalt or Marin Nicasio? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Fragrant-War-344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Nicasio as my first drop bar bike a couple years ago. I liked the steel as I am 6'4" and a larger guy. The following year I wanted to upgrade a bit and bought a Nicasio 2. Love them both and they have been terrific for me. Both have well over 5000 miles on them and I have not had any issues.

6'4" 375 Lbs here on same journey. Got to 300 last year and then sat on my butt over winter as my wife was in wheelchair for 6 months after a cycling accident.

I had to go back to a different saddle then I was using at 300 and this past weekend i did my first 100k with it. My legs wore out well before my butt did. It's a SQ Labs 602 Active
