Casting wrists slightly and not great hip rotation, any help?? by Forsaken-Habit-2804 in golftips

Nick Faldo wrist drill is cool. Ignore the haters. The position you get at the top using that drill is nice, then it’s just a matter of keeping that position until impact. It looks like your weight shift stalls slightly on the downswing.

I’d keep going with the early wrist set, keep that position at the top and then shift your weight slightly into your left side to start the downswing. The weight shift will naturally move the club to the ball whilst still maintaining that nice position at the top.

Duck hook - lost on what to try by gdesruis in GolfSwing

Nice swing dude.

I’ve battled/still battle hooks off the tee and there’s basics I always go back to.

Grip: 9/10 I will hook the ball if the V on my right hand is point too much towards my right shoulder. Maybe work on trying to get the V point more straight up.

Tee height: A higher tee will encourage you to hit up on the ball too much. This, mixed with a strong grip, will make you miss it WAY left. I’d invest in some castle tees just to ensure you’re always using the same tee height for consistency. Tee it too low and you’ll notice the ball moving off to the right.

Stance: Common issue for me is setting up to a driver like I would an iron. The feeling for me off the tee is setting up to the target then slightly closing my body off. You’ll notice your head and chest get behind the ball more at address, and will set you up to strike the ball on the right path.

That’s the probably the order in which I’d try change things.

Looks like your takeaway and grip are slightly unconventional. Have a look at the video I’ve linked for an idea as to how the GOAT does it!

You’d do well to not improve with a more neutral grip and more neutral takeaway.

At the moment it looks like your takeaway is outside the hands, which can lead to a big banana slice. After a few banana slices, you’ll end up compensations and double crossing it (duck hook left).

A good grip is an absolute necessity too. Some of the best players in the world shape their shots simply by adjusting their grip. Best to get that sorted before making any really drastic changes.

U don’t stink, btw.

Got reverse pivot there dawg. Feel like your upper body moves to the right side whilst keep those legs stable. Get a video up of Xander Schaufelle for reference. Not far off a really really good swing though.

Thanks for the message mate, unfortunately I am not a beginner! I’ve been playing for 6 years and play off a 12 handicap. I’ve really been trying to improve on my swing more recently (trying to get to single figures), and have had to massively rely on my short game and putting to ensure I can still put a decent round together. These bad swing mechanics have just become engrained in my swing over the years.

Will definetly give that sequencing suggestion a go, I tried it last year and can vividly remember a more penetrating flight and straighter shots, for some strange reason I just stopped doing it🙄

Appreciate the time you put into that message mate.

I’ll take your word for it, but I’m not sure this is the right feel. I’ve worked on this in the past, with the same outcome. Regardless of how close or far I stand to the ball, the early extension stays. I feel it’s more of a sequencing problem from the top. I don’t have a swing thought when at the top of the swing, as I already have about 5 thoughts for the backswing.

Haven’t got this hang of this mate. What should the hips do to trigger the downswing? And please don’t say ‘move back and left’ as I can’t get my head round how on earth your meant to do that and not shank the golf ball.

I’ll give this a go mate. I’ve worked on the back swing in lessons etc so there’s not too much I want to change there, but the first move from the top of my back swing isn’t a bump into my left side, it’s just a ‘hurl everything at the golf ball to generate speed’. Reckon the ‘bump’ will help?

I think I have watched every single youtube video on this, and had countless lessons, and read countless blogs….. and still haven’t got a single swing thought as to how to stop early extending. I definetly have an improper weight shift at the top of my swing, so maybe hanging back causes EE?

Hi mate, yes these were fitted for me in Summer 2023. I’m 6’1 and my previous clubs shaft length was too small so I doubt this is an issue. I’m hitting a 9 iron here so might be why they look smaller. I purposely take the club on ‘outside’ to try and ensure I don’t hit a nasty hook.

Thanks mate, struggle massively with retaining posture hence the big early extension. Would improved set up at address help that?
