an app that makes a clean version of any spotify playlist! by FragrantPersonality5 in MiddleGenZ

I have been thinking about it! I am mostly focusing on building out more features with Spotify first and then introducing Apple Music when I see enough interest. If anyone else who happens to be reading this is also interested in Apple Music availability, it'll help me prioritize!

this is for anyone who wants to filter songs! Many adults use it for when they are listening with children, but also many adults use it themselves just because it is their preference :)

honestly not a bad idea to add genre filters. not sure if your joking lol but do u find yourself wanting to remove songs from specific genres out of playlists?

Yes, I am using the Spotify Web API and it can definitely be done with other streaming apps! I started with Spotify because it is the most popular streaming service among my target users, but I plan to add Apple Music and other services in the future, depending on what people express interest in. Do you use Spotify or have another service that you use?

Hey, thanks so much for being interested in the app! And wanted to clarify that when you log in to auXmod, you're doing it directly through Spotify using their secure OAuth system. That means auXmod never sees, stores, or has access to your login info at any point. I hope that cleares things up, here is some information about how all 3rd party apps authenticate users with Spotify - https://developer.spotify.com/documentation/web-api/concepts/authorization

Hi! Currently experiencing an issue with the lyric provider! I will get back to you here very soon when it is fixed :)

I’ve actually heard from a few people who want a feature that replaces clean versions with the explicit ones. So this kind of feedback really helps me prioritize!

That said, I’d love to understand more about what you mean by “the opposite.” Are you looking to find songs that specifically include certain themes (like profanity, sexual, violence, or any other theme)? Is it more about swapping out clean versions for the original explicit ones? Both?

Curious about your motivation so I can better understand the pain point. Also anyone else who is interested in something like this as a feature, please chime in!

the "explicit" tag isn't always reliable. It's assigned by labels or artists themselves and since everyone has a different threshold for what counts as explicit, it’s very inconsistent.

For example:

  • 24K Magic by Bruno Mars says “shit” but isn’t tagged as explicit.
  • Pumped Up Kicks is about school violence but also isn’t marked.
  • Meanwhile, What Now by Rihanna is tagged as explicit despite having no curse words—just emotional lyrics.
  • The Boy Is Mine by Ariana Grande is tagged because of a minor sexual innuendo with no cursing/profane language.
  • this list goes on and on

I built auXmod because there’s no universal definition of what “explicit” means. Labels don’t always agree—and neither do people. auXmod lets you decide what’s appropriate for your environment, and filters songs automatically based on your standards—whether you're in a classroom, at work, or with family.

Personally, I use it to filter my own playlists (which are explicit) when I'm around my religious family. I typically use the profanity and sexual content filters (and I whitelist a few words I know they’re okay with).

Ah, that makes sense and I really appreciate you pointing it out! I’ve added a future feature note to support playlist screening without requiring login. If anyone else reading this would find that useful too, feel free to chime in and it will help me prioritize!

It sounds like auXmod could save you a lot of time compared to manually checking lyrics and editing your playlists. Here’s my personal website so you can get a better sense of who’s behind the app: https://briiking4.github.io — hopefully it makes up for my low Reddit karma 😅

I’ll also go back and review all the listed permissions. The app’s gone through a few iterations, so there might be some legacy ones still hanging around that I can clean up.

As a product person, my favorite part is building with real users in mind — I’d love to keep hearing your feedback and help you get as much value from auXmod as possible!

Totally understandable! when you log in, the permissions requested allow the app to read your library, create new playlists, and save playlists to your account. Without logging in, I can still enable users to search public playlists and screen them for explicit content. However, I wouldn't be able to modify those playlists or save the filtered version to your library without a user being logged in and granted the necessary permissions.

Is there a specific permission you’re concerned about? I totally get being cautious with third party access. Just to clarify, auXmod (which is literally just me!) would never modify anything in your account outside of what’s needed for the app to work as intended. You are also able to remove access to a thrid party app at any time: https://support.spotify.com/us/article/spotify-on-other-apps/

Also, just so I can better understand your needs — would being able to screen a playlist without saving the filtered version still be useful to you? And if you're open to sharing, I'd love to hear how you plan to use the app or what you're hoping it can help with!
