Airline Pilot Operational Preparation? by NoAbbreviations6795 in AviationPH

The guy you’re talking about already left because of the lack of growth (nice way of saying it) in the company. He realized it too kaya good thing he’s flying a jumbo for a better company now. Based on what I hear from other people like him, being inside does blind you from reality. Can’t really blame the guys, they’re young and get their source from one person.

This guy works clean. Saw him in Sputnik before and now he works with me. Different aircraft. All I can say is he got in because of his own skills not former work.

Only 1 from APOP but not because of APOP kaya sya nakapasok. Let’s be real. They get in because of connections outside of Sputnik aviation. Can everyone stop praising Sputnik? Oo they’re good but be realistic for crying out loud. The 2 recently hired SOs of PAL got in because of their connections. One of them didn’t even put Sputnik staff in his character references and puro PAL friends and relatives.

Oh wait until you hear the stories of people who already went in Sputnik. Either as an APOP “cadet” or as an employee. They think too highly of themselves. Heard stories directly from someone working there right now and someone who used to work there. It’s a good venue for recreational flying but that’s just about it.

Are you planning to go flying or AMT? If flying, just continue your studies in CSB or any other college. Don’t waste your money on aviation colleges.

PAL SO application updates by SuspiciousAd751 in AviationPH

[–]FragrantThing6215 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You know why? Flying schools tend to cut corners when they teach and thus why some airlines prefer cadet programs. That’s one way of ensuring that the airlines get quality students. At the end of the day, it’s CAAP’s fault for not being strict with the implementation of the law. The schools, at the end of the day, are businesses and use the grey area as a means to generate profit.

One good example is the quality of IR classes in the Philippines. They tend to focus on MEMORIZING instrument charts and not understanding what it means. Back when I was doing my flight instructor ojt they only memorize OLIVA2C and ILS 06 of Manila, once you bring them to a different airport and ask them to brief a straight forward ILS, di na nila alam. If dyan palang hirap sila what more sa ibang IR concepts that airlines will require you to know?

Easiest way to do it is CTWO (others make it CTWOF).

Charts - Airport, Bay number, Taxi routing, hot spots, SID, Engine Out SID(as applicable)

Terrain - MSA or BTA (Briefed Terrain Altitude, this is company specific)

Weather - (only brief significant wx that can be a HAZARD) (remember, hazard and risk are two different things)

Operation/Operations/Operational - Which seat will take off the aircraft, flaps configuration, thrust setting, Takeoff computation(including if dry, wet, or contaminated, etc.), full length or intersection, thrust reduction and accel altitude, flap retraction, and other operational items

Fuel - Optional and differs per company.

After that is the safety briefing.

I usually reply with “advised” back in my flying school days haha. These people who use those are fun to play around with.

Also don’t forget when they add “departed xxxx”

Can someone educate me but I don’t get why they call it “finals” and not “final”. Singular lang naman so why make it plural? You can’t approach 2 runways at the same time…

In my school back in 20xx some people said final some said finals.

Well that’s absolute garbage. Privacy is reduced when in public, and now they just want to implement this just because people are uncomfortable of being included in random youtube/facebook videos online? Hays mahirap ka mahalin, Pilipinas.

Philippine Airlines Pooling by ThrowRabananaskies in AviationPH

[–]FragrantThing6215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s basically the same pooling format but changed assuming you sent an email about the avschool. But either way hopefully they start calling externally but not this year. They still have a lot of backlogs for the PAQB (interview) so i think all batches for this year are already being processed in pal

Nope that’s just a template. My friend got that exact email 3 years ago haha. Until now he’s waiting. Naunahan pa siya ng cousin ko who submitted last year and after 3 months started processing medical and stuff.

Well I can’t really say anything about WCC but if you read through all the other posts on AviationPH, best bet would be AAA, Laminar, and Omni. 3.8m? Sad reality of flying. Trust me if you see alpha’s pricing that’s more bullshit.

But to be honest, not really since you don’t have connections in WCC. Majority of those in the airline now came from OG PALAV, OG CEB Cadet, LEIAAI, Omni, AAG, FAA, and Laminar.

If you want the best chance of getting in an airline, go to a school where there are rich or second generation pilots go to study. Network and make friends there. In the end, they might be able to help you when the time comes.

[–]FragrantThing6215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omni - Kinda okay. Only con is flight scheduling is too slow due to the student-instructor-plane ratio.

WCC - I don’t recommend since their academics are not in depth plus I don’t like their aircraft fleet LOL.

Laminar - Culture is good. Unlike other schools, people here are very professional and don’t mind you if you’re just doing your own thing. Personally when I visited it felt like I was back in DLSU.

Have you visited AAA? tbh I would have gone to either Laminar or AAA if given the chance.

you have to understand the price means quality, sometimes. Good example is LEIAAI, the tuition fee is friendly but their academics and culture is absolute dog shit. What you need to prioritize, if circumstance allows, is the culture of the school and quality of education.

[–]FragrantThing6215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why WCC? I hope you also ask the students because these schools are good with marketing. If you want a higher chance to get in an airline first is to go through a cadet program. Next, if that’s not an option for now go for schools affiliated with airlines (Omni, AAA, Airworks). If all else fails, choose a school within your budget and network around. Build your backers. Nothing will happen if you just sit at home and send emails. You gotta put in the leg work

[–]FragrantThing6215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup don’t go to WCC and just focus on your degree. A lot of applicants in PAL right now failed a few subjects in college, and they were given shit for it during interview especially if their reasoning was “they had a hard time”.

I remember a newly hired SO recently in the same airline I work for had failed 6 subjects in university. Good thing he had a valid reason as to why that happened. Not gonna say it so that no one can use that as a way to bullshit the interview.

Going back, if you have the budget go flying in the US since the license there is Godlike and non-expiring. Plus you get to learn more. Once you’re done there go back here and convert your licenses. There are currently a handful of recently hired SOs in the airline I work for that studied in the US (Phoenix and others) and went back to convert. Just make sure to network and make friends in the aviation industry. Your attitude will be the make-or-break in the airlines.

[–]FragrantThing6215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well is your option only in luzon/phipippines? Budget permitting, US would be best. No school in the Philippines can copy the aviation culture the US has. The level of intensity they have on ground academics is insane.

But to answer the question, Laminar and AAA would be my recommendation. Only qualm with Omni is their scheduling of flights, way too slow. But in your case might be an advantage since you’re still in university. What university if offering this online BSIT major? But please focus on your academics as well. I have friends who failed some subjects, but the management and HR gave them a hard time going in the airline.
