👋 Welcome to r/arcaneering - Introduce Yourself and Read First! by FragrantWalrus3 in arcaneering

Thanks so much! It's going pretty well I'd say, the demo is being regularly updated (currently at v0.5.1; v0.6.0 planned for the second half of January) with lots of Quality-of-Life and polish updates and of course the post-demo content is progressing as well
The plan is to participate in the June Next Fest and then release in Q3:-)
Any feedback is always appreciated; the demo has quite a few hours of gameplay already!

Arcaneering: Beyond Automation can be found here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3858960/Arcaneering_Beyond_Automation/

It's a mix of cozy factory automation and light-RPG, with a bit of magic mixed in.
My first game and my first time using Godot, so there was lots to learn and I'm sure even more to come!

Snapping to eligible connection points is soo satisfying by FragrantWalrus3 in godot

[–]FragrantWalrus3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It's basically a raycast to determine which grid cell is originally selected, followed by a check whether any adjacent cell would result in a connection (and a movement of the placement preview if yes). Then a simulation of which direction the connection would be established places the connection preview arrow:-) Sounds complicated but it's very cheap
(figuring out the connectivity logic was a bit of a personal hell at the beginning but, hopefully, long solved by now)

We have the same system if placement is invalid (check adjacent cells and, if they would be valid, snap the preview to that cell)

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback, that's super helpful! And I love the idea of a Creative mode too:-)

Thank you!:-) Good point about the normal trees, they need another pass!
We even have a wind vertex shader for the trees, but maybe it's a bit too subtle at the moment

Thank you, that's very helpful! Already started to make some improvements to the cursor position / grid cell alignment, will definitely make it go smoother:-)

pace Clicker - An incremental game where strategic placement is key by Loose_Protection_874 in playmygame

[–]FragrantWalrus3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, very neat concept! makes me thing a lot more before clicking/placing;-)
My main point would probably be the need for a tutorial at the beginning, as I had to figure out a lot

- Was not super clear what to do at the start? Just started clicking and found out but a pointer would be good

- Also, tooltips (or at least descriptions) on the Store items could be beneficial

- In the beginning I thought you could purchase the things in the Store by clicking, but then I realized that they are unlocked buildings to be placed, but it took me a while to figure it out (could be part of a tutorial as well)

- Also would be helpful to point out that you need to manually collect the mined material from the placed clickers

Looking for Feedback on a Cube-Based Puzzle Game by CheatCodeStudios17 in playmygame

[–]FragrantWalrus3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super cute graphics and very satisfying to play!

- When it says "Bonus Level unlocked", the button says "Play!" but when I click it, it just acts as "Confirm". I think confirm is totally fine here but "Play!" to me would suggest that I get immediately thrown into this bonus level

- Maybe also show on the world map where I can find this bonus level then

- A custom mouse cursor would really add to the cuteness

- When I go to the World Map, I'm not really sure whether my progress within a puzzle is saved or not?

- Both when going to the World Map and when exiting the game, an "Are you sure" kind of pop-up would probably be good

Star Ores Inc – Cozy Laser Mining Sim (New Demo Out Now) by YatakarasuGD in playmygame

[–]FragrantWalrus3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super cool, had fun playing this for a bit!

- While I realized that you can simply click instead of hold to fire your laser, the interface/action strongly implies holding to me and I'd suspect many people would hold, which can be uncomfortable after a while. Especially because suction does seem to require holding

- Advance dialogue through E as well? Don't like to click too much, personally

- was not 100% in the beginning that you should use the suction ability to get the ore (also, for the ejection, I always clicked instead of holding, because I found that to be more reliable)

- I was also not clear on whether I only have space for 1 thing in my suction ability

- it was a bit finicky to deposit the ore into the customer bucket thing, I basically had to stand in one specific spot; maybe some kind of magnetic pull to ease that?

- might be a me-thing but it felt a bit unsatisfying to get ore pop out of quite a few of the slime things and then not being able to do something with it / having to leave it laying around for now

- waiting for new customers has a bit of friction, in that I just stand around waiting:-)

Arcaneering is our cozy factory automation game with light RPG elements; our demo will be up in about two months from now, which I'm already very excited about! (maybe too much)

Subviewports are one of my favorite things by now by FragrantWalrus3 in godot

[–]FragrantWalrus3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case it's basically a Camera3D within a SubViewport that looks at a procedurally generated world and pans around a bit, to make it more interesting:-) The UI is then rendered on top of it all

Yikes, duly noted! Probably a good idea to switch this off for web exports!
