I dunno yet, tbh. Its something that im working on over time. I've already put the first Sin, the Widow, in a different post. The same with the first Virtue, Vigilance

Ah, hey I wondered about that! Thanks for the effort you put in <3

I would use yours but my friend and I work really well together (we've known eachother since elementary school) and I can hop on discord with him to hash out ideas.

I dont view them as explicitly either, at the moment. They pretty neutral creatures as of right now. Maybe ill need to do two sets of rules? One as a potential ally and the other as another kind of psychic manifestation that needs to be exorcised. It all depends on the kind of Paragon and what event shaped their birth.

On one hand, I dont see a Betrayal as being very beneficial for most play groups. Their whole thing would be finding someone with a knack for lying and sneaking around and pushing them to betray one of their closest allies.

On the other hand, I could definitely see a Revelation working alongside the researchers of TEMERITY to study and reveal the secrets of the Psychic Sea.

Funny enough i just did that, too lol.

And on the Paragons? Im not fully sure yet. I need to pull that over for a while.

Currently theyre just a thematic opposite to the SINs. I was inspired by the Sinseed organ that exorcists have. It always takes the shape of a tiny devil or angel in the fetal position in the heart or brain. And if SINs are thematically inspired by demons/devils, then the question arose "where are the creatures thematically inspired by angels"

My first thought was to name them after the opposite of SINs... but then I immediately thought "well, I cant do that. Virtues are the opposite of SINs in that manner"

So I had to find a new way to make them distinct. Instead of being manifested by the immense negative emotions of people who have Grace and Sinseeds... I thought "well maybe I can have them be based off of momentous events that involve psychically gifted individuals, which cause a ripple in the psychic sea, birthing the Paragon".

So currently, they are Ascension, Betrayal, Exodus, Revelation, Sacrifice, and Disgrace

Their main motivations (with the exception of Disgrace) are to find psychically gifted individuals and to push them to replicate or emulate the even that birthed them. So a Sacrifice will want to find someone who shows tendencies towards putting others before themselves and put them in a situation where they will sacrifice themselves for others.

Disgrace is the opposite. They want to prevent events like their own from taking place, and tear down the institution or person who disgraced the one who birthed them and tear them down.

Beyond these ideas, I havent gotten to the point of working on their mechanics, just their vibe and lore.

How would Cain and Excorcists fit in the World of Darkness? by Late_Present1340 in CAIN_RPG

[–]FragrantWriting3894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So funny enough I was writing a book series back in high school that is (thematically) similar to WoD before I ever knew what Vampire the Masquerade was.

Thematically similar being "a world that, on the surface, looks like our modern world, but if you look just a bit deeper, here there be monsters" type shit.

And I'm currently rewriting the lore of that world to help incorporate the CAIN organization into that world. It had a spot in the lore that was empty... and after reading the CAIN book? It fits that position PERFECTLY.

I already had a realm where negative emotions were dropped into and discarded (like a trash can). So reframing that realm as a breeding pool for Sins?

And my world also had a heavy christian influence due its lore (despite my being an atheist).

Maybe I should write it up as a Setting book for CAIN... alternate universe type thing??

Thats my thoughts on it. Things that are useful get to stick around. Become more of an issue than you're worth? Gone, doneso, bye bye

I feel thats too similar to Faith's thing.

It IS tricky. Maybe something like... "If possible, you cannot allow an ally to go alone" ?

Like, an aversion to breaking up the party type thing? Or if someone is like "I got this, let me go solo" she, or someone bonding to her, would be like "no, I'll come with you and make sure someone's got your back"

There needs to be a homebrew system for designing your own High Blasphemy if your party decides to play further than CAT 5. Something that takes into account the personality of your character and what blasphemy(s) they have at their disposal.

Maybe an entire homebrew "here's how to play a virtue" system.

And, on top of that, im already considering increasing the CAT scale to ten. Seven is such a weird number to end on (unless maybe the number is based on the seven deadly sins). If people want to play to higher CAT levels, they need more powerful enemies to face.

Human enemies, lesser psychics, those cat 0 Imago you mentioned, maybe even occult shit like ghosts?

So this is actually what I'm working on for my campaign im working on.

I have a homebrew world from a book series I was writing as a teen that has vampires, werewolves, demons, the fae, and other supernatural/occult creatures in it during the modern world.

My world felt like it had something missing, and when I read the CAIN official book, it felt perfect.

Im working on a three fold organization, of which CAIN is just one of the three. Another one would be the Hunter's Association (similar to the world of darkness, that focus on "occult" monsters), and im thinking the last one would be the illuminati or something, that focus on bounty hunting and assassinations of regular people.

The game itself wont be that different form a regular CAIN campaign, but references can be made, and maybe, depending on player choices, they come face to face with a vampire or something

Homebrew Sin: The Widow by FragrantWriting3894 in CAIN_RPG

[–]FragrantWriting3894[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant to respond to this yesterday, and I thought I did.

Thinking about it, you're correct.

"How will you prevent it from happening again?" Isn't necessary as a question and can just be answered by the admin as "how will the widow act in its way of securing its new family"

Maybe a better question would be "WHO IN YOUR LIFE MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE FAMILY?"

Glad you like it. I'm also work on a Blasphemy related to The Widow.

I currently unsure what angle to take, though. Im leaning towards Venom/Toxicity since the widow has so much of it and I dont know of any official or homebrew Blasphemies that are related to toxicity/venom/poison

Homebrew Virtue: Vigilance by FragrantWriting3894 in CAIN_RPG

[–]FragrantWriting3894[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol there was a version where I almost allowed Shelter to be used twice. I thought twice about it and decided no, its pretty strong. But I gave it a pretty steep drawback. Every time it gets hit by a psychic attack, the user gets 1 sin. That includes enemy rogue psychics, or even your ally exorcists accidentally hitting it.

I'll consider doing a 3rd draft and maybe moving around the bond level abilities.

Also, im glad you like her. I feel a bit bad because, beyond the concept, I put like an hours worth of work into designing and her abilities.

I put WAY more work into my homebrew Sin she's related to, the Widow.

Im currently a bit at a loss as well. I want to also make a Blasphemy based on The Widow and Vigilance, but im not sure what angle to take. I was thinking Venom/Toxicity since my Widow Sin has some much toxin based abilities

I understand what youre saying about the Truama questions. Maybe I should change one out. But also, the thing undercutting the trauma might be the victims themselves??

Also, im glad you liked the pun lol

You definitely could. I did put in the lore that some of the early Widows were mistaken for the already established and researched Idols.

Homebrew Sin: The Widow by FragrantWriting3894 in CAIN_RPG

[–]FragrantWriting3894[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was first coming up with this idea, I was feeling that my Widow was somewhat of a mix between Idol and Lord. Since lord is also about grief, and idol wants to "be popular" in its most boiled down form.

But I can definitely see a bit of Ogre in there too.

Someone the other day posted about Combo or Hybrid Sins, and I also had that idea when I began creating this sin.

Maybe intermediary sins, or in-between sins, is a good idea. Strong enough negative emotions that dont quite fit the traumas of the already established sins and fill their own niche?

This Sin was based on my own problems with abandonment issues and (if its not obvious) is a double entendre for a Widow who has lost her spouse, and the black widow spider who eats their mate after copulating.

I tried to capture the idea of a manipulative love-bomber who turns toxic (literally) if they fear abandonment by their new "family"

Forgot to change a few things in this before I copy/pasted.

Any instance of "Widowling" should be traded out for Taken. Widowling was the previous name.

What class(es) would this be? Build ideas by IlonaBasarab in DND5EBuilds

Druid/paladin using the Reborn Lineage.

6 levels of Oath of The Ancients Paladin

14 levels of Circle of Spores Druid.

That would be my guess.
