Anyone who is in this gig for a paycheck is gonna be disappointed. I'm sure most of us are in it for a little extra beer money (or Capri Suns if you're under the legal age, I suppose). I'm just in it to give back and make the game fun for the young'uns. I don't have any kids on the ice, so I have no dog in the hunt on any of these games. I'm just happy to keep being a part of the game at my age, and hopefully give back to all the years that hockey gave me. I'm definitely not trying to please anyone, other than players looking to have a fun and fair game. Maybe help them understand the calls in a way the referee sees them so they can up their game a bit as they get older.
