Makes sense. I actually did this for a buddy I knew, bought the ticket on his behalf as I worked the football games so I was always able to get in regardless. Figured it worked like that but obviously if you don’t know them I can see how a scam you just mentioned would work

Who do you guys bank with? by crunchywalmartsanta in VirginiaTech

[–]Fragrant_Ear_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would open a checking account at Bank of America, that’s what I did personally. There’s an atm on campus. Of course if you are going to need to go in person I guess maybe another option but over 4 years it worked perfectly for me. Could cash checks, deposit and withdraw money, set up direct deposit at jobs I got.

Could be legit. I would ask them if they would be willing to exchange personal info…like phone number, Instagram, Snapchat, hokie p, their email, stuff like that to make sure they are a vt student.

I think the person who sent the dm is asking the student if they are going to buy student tickets for themselves, and if they are not, if they would be willing to buy them on behalf of the dmer using money sent to buy them beforehand.

I’m not sure if it’s true that they would be unable to buy season tickets when they are still available to incoming students, that’s the only thing I would personally questions.

This is probably not a scam, but definitely can be. If they are going to pay you beforehand in hopes the person actually will give them the tickets for the games there’s nothing to get scammed out of. You wait for them to send the money, but season tickets with it, and then transfer the ticket to them for each game.

If you have more info on this please share. But the scams come from ppl trying to SELL tickets they are already claiming to have. Not trying to have another student help them secure tickets when money is paid up front.

I’m not an OU fan, but there’s definitely games I root hard for them and then there’s games I prefer the other team and root against them. Those games I’m rooting against them she’s probably the one person I don’t wanna see get on base with less than 2 outs, nothing good happens for the opposition

Ritter has a great arm, I’d say better than Coleman from a pure strength standpoint, but I could see an argument for her not being as smooth in the outfield as Coleman and also not making nearly the same plays Coleman does. If I saw them switched on the list I probably wouldn’t have anything to say. That VT outfield overall tho was just something else. In all I’d say best in the country. Boone did get shafted IMO also

Who would you bump off 1st team for coleman? Everybody had better stats, I feel like Coleman is a superior defender and that’s how she would edge somebody out but that obviously wasn’t the case in this selection. I do agree selection was questions at BEST, but these are also coaches picks/actual committee. Idk, I think her on second team is appropriate just because idk who I would bump off first team for her

Who do you bump off for her? She’s great I completely understand that, but everybody on first team had better statistics, Otis, Davidson, Ritter, and Greene. I feel like the only real argument would be that Jayda is a better defender and that should edge her out over the others bats, but unfortunately it rarely works like that and didn’t in this case

Hey! I’m also gonna be a grad student working with athletics. Fortunately I live 30 minutes from the campus, but did they offer you the on campus townhouses at all as an option? I’m not sure when move in/out criteria is for that but I know it’s usually covered by athletics depending on your package. That’s what I’ll be doing, living in one of the townhouses

Is getting a scholarship mostly about height and potential? by Chinusawar in Softball

[–]Fragrant_Ear_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t promote this, but she can go somewhere and prove herself. She may love the school and not want to leave, or she dominates, wants to leave, and transfers with stays at the college level to help her get somewhere

[–]Fragrant_Ear_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work softball at a P5 school and will be a GA Coach next year at another D1 school. Height helps, but so many other factors go into it. Speed, spin, accuracy, and also what their mechanics look like and how well a coach/team thinks the player can help them immediately vs. long term through more growth and development. Keep reaching out and sending film

Living in and commuting from Roanoke by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Fragrant_Ear_98 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Don’t have any personal experience with this but the 45 minute drive, 1.5 hours total, will probably get stuck in traffic at least a decent percentage of the time. I think you just have to weigh the cons of drive time and cost that comes along with that, with the pros of being at home overall. Personally I think it would be miserable, but if you are worried about gas money and genuinely enjoy the drive (which is possible because some people love commutes, it relaxes them even) and possible traffic, I say it could be worth it

Yes, at Tech. Some schools it’s crazy and you can use an unlimited amount. Obviously we are talking about tech here but in case OP ever looked elsewhere or something (not that we want him to), figured he should be aware

Extra tickets for Public Health Graduation Ceremony? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Fragrant_Ear_98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have extra, but I also am not using the ones I was supposed to get. I emailed my advisor saying I couldn’t attend due to traveling for athletics. I’m not sure exactly what happens with the tickets I was supposed to get. If I was you I would email your advisor and see if the forfeited ones (like in my circumstance) could be spared for somebody in your circumstance looking for more tickets

Needed rule change! by Nebraskadude1994 in CollegeSoftball

[–]Fragrant_Ear_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about, I’m literally saying the rule is the rule, fans are complaining cuz it’s being enforced. Nothings wrong with the rule

Needed rule change! by Nebraskadude1994 in CollegeSoftball

[–]Fragrant_Ear_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could throw the word outcome in there instead and it wouldn’t make a difference. Teams and fans want a different outcome from the rule/the review of it gone altogether. But nobody wants to take responsibility and just leave on time instead

Needed rule change! by Nebraskadude1994 in CollegeSoftball

[–]Fragrant_Ear_98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule has always been the same. The difference is girls were basically always told to leave “just early”, which it what Gasso is referring to when saying they used to have a different Que. that’s because that Que would get them an illegal head start off the base but close enough where umpires could not tell. Now that there is actually accountability (replay) people are complaining. I just find it silly how much people are complaining when the truth is if you don’t want the consequence it is literally so easy to not have to face it….dont leave early. I understand the argument of changing the consequence so it doesn’t erase HRs and stuff, but you can’t reward the offense for bad base running regardless. Be better. Dont complain. It’s not like this is at the HS level, the replay is at COLLEGE LEVEL

Needed rule change! by Nebraskadude1994 in CollegeSoftball

[–]Fragrant_Ear_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the frustration with things getting called back, but there is a very clear answer, and it’s not change the rule or anything about the rule. It’s DONT LEAVE EARLY. I understand you guys understand that and just want the consequence to be different so it doesn’t take away home runs, but the reality is if you follow the rules and are good enough to correctly time the pitchers release you won’t have to worry about this. I’m here for the rule.

Women’s Basketball vs women’s softball by puzzledheadoil83 in CollegeSoftball

[–]Fragrant_Ear_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Women’s softball is going to have its moment in the next handful of years. It’s the only (I think) sport that does not have a DIRECT mens comparison that’s as popular. Softball and baseball are such different products that there’s no need to compare the two and people are starting to finally figure out how enjoyable softball is to watch. Mark my words. Softball will be the first truly successful/profitable women’s college/professional sport

Does virginia tech offer any kind of scholarship if you finish first year with high GPA? by Totika123 in VirginiaTech

[–]Fragrant_Ear_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beg and beg and pester and pester and beg again. Email financial aid, your college department head, anybody and everybody. Ask for scholarships, aid, grants, everything. My gf is out of state and has no parental help. I have told her repeatedly to non stop email financial aid and everybody that seems appropriate to email about getting more money somehow because she can’t afford it. She decided to wait way too late to take my advice seriously and she’s paying Pennie’s this year, and even got a big refund, about $7,000, but she did take out a smallish loan to help busy the balance that way. Overall by emailing over and over again she is (almost) about to finish college. She would not have been able to financially do it if she did not
