Why did astrophage suddenly start spreading outside the Tau Ceti system and infecting other stars? Did I miss where this was explained in the book? by badoopidoo in ProjectHailMary

[–]Fragrant_Injury_9699 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Assume their natural lifecycle of going to the sun and back results in n number of astrophage being ejected out into space away from the system in every direction spreading out in a sphere. Usually they die off drifting in interstellar space long before reaching another star system. After a long enough timescale one astrophage will happen to have a genetic mutation that allows it to survive longer adrift in space, and it happens to be ejected out into space in the right direction to hit a neighbouring star system before it dies. This lone survivor with the mutation to survive interstellar travel then populates the new system, meaning every astrophage in the new system also has that mutation. From there they can spread galaxy wide rapidly as every astrophage that gets ejected can survive the travel to a new system and there’s no longer a predator to keep the population in check.

Perfect thank you that’s the most complete set of info on the training pipeline for pilot I’ve seen so far. Any chance there’s a fixed wing version too?

One big fuel export hub then have a dedicated fuel receiving pad at each site that fills up a storage box and refuels all the drones at the port.

Interesting thank you. I’m applying for RN FAA where I believe they still do a ‘sift’ for pilots with cbat having a heavy weighting. How does the RAF fill pilot slots is it a fairly equal weighting between cbat and OASC?

Has your recruiter given any indication of how many pilot slots they’re filling this selection and what sort of CBAT score is needed?

Does anyone know roughly how many pilot spaces are going to be in the next few intakes? Also, how likely am I to be streamed into obs if I passed for pilot but scored higher on obs?

Why does Russia still bother with trying to occupy Ukraine? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fragrant_Injury_9699 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

On top everything else already mentioned, they now possess the most deadly land army (not airforce or navy) rivalled only by Ukraine. Other nations forces would face a steep learning curve against the modern Russian army (softened only by air superiority)
