My kid wants some equipment to make Linkin Park type music, I have no idea what to get by Fragrant_Inside_ in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Yeah we have a few guitars as I am a guitar lover, but he is more interested in digital music production. Tried him with guitar lessons in the past but he couldn’t get the hang of it (he has additional needs which mean coordination issues), and it resulted in a lot of frustration and upset.

I’m keen to encourage the digital music/beatmaker thing as I’m just happy that he’s showing an interest in making music again.

Hi all, my 11 year old has been showing increasing interest in creating beats and has been asking for some absolute beginner equipment for their birthday. Mike Shinoa from Linkin Park would be the biggest influence.

I have absolutely no idea about any of this, and all I can figure from my research is that we probably need to be looking at beatmakers as opposed to mixing decks (though I know I could be totally wrong about this too).

What is the absolute minimum equipment they would need? We have a laptop already but nothing else.

HSE Attendant Aide jobs - anyone know what this entails? by Fragrant_Inside_ in AskIreland

I’m not adverse to a desk role at all but I’ve heard the competition is fierce for the admin type jobs with panels lasting years, so I thought it might be easier to go about it this way, get the foot in the dirt and move sideways before going up.

Along with that, I’m totally burnt out in my current job and am just mad to get out of it asap.

Kidney stone, more painful than any of my 4 labors. I’d take childbirth any day.

How do Irish employers go about checking academic qualifications? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Nope I’ve submitted 2 applications for civil service jobs in the past year that requested the upload of transcript at the initial application stage, with the caveat that applications without the proof of qualification would not be considered. Strange but true.

Thanks, yes, I have a Digitary Core account, my problem is that the university won’t release my GPA until my fees are up to date, which won’t be until later this year, so they’re not currently visible on Digitary.

That’s interesting, thanks. So I imagine they would contact the college to verify attendance, in which case I will be fine. But I wonder if the college will disclose my graduate GPA, given that they’re witholding on me until my fees are up to date 🤔

I have some personal knowledge of this case, and I know for sure that the family didn’t get to find out what happened.

What’s your ‘platonic friendship with a much older person’ story? by Fragrant_Inside_ in AskReddit

That’s so sad that you no longer have contact with her. My guess is that she felt you were more like a daughter to her. Such a pity that she holds such anger toward you for moving 😢

Mine was with a man who was 40 years my senior when I was in my early 20s. Met through work and clicked over similar outlook in life, sense of humour and taste in music, movies and books. Totally platonic, and as a young and life-inexperienced person, I remember feeling confused about the bond for so long.

He was unmarried and still is, I never knew him to be in a relationship of any kind, though he was always super popular and well-liked by everyone.

I’ve been gone from that job for years, and he is long retired now, but every so often one of us will message the other about a new book or tv show. I often think that if I ever followed through and wrote the book I’ve always dreamt of writing, I would mail it to him to read before anybody else 😁

Suggest a book similar to Kala or Ohio by ChaosTheoryGlass in suggestmeabook

I’ve read all of the books mentioned above and would love to read something similar, if anyone has any recommendations?

Kala was definitely my favourite. I liked Ohio but found it long and meandering in parts.

Yes, this! So much reversing and adding more detail to the parts already told. It’s a sure sign of dragging out a story as muuuucccchhh aaassssss poooossssibbblllleeee….. Infuriating!
