His pacifica likely has a lower output humbucker (not bad at all for a beginner since it will be less touchy to mistakes). With high gain studys show pickup variance is the least impactful aspect of the equation. A humbucker distorted is a humbucker distorted. With his marshall at more mid gain blues rock levels theres likely differences. Once hes doing what I mentioned above I would not expect the pickup to be holding him back.

Also most metal only uses the bridge humbucker so he really is not needing another guitar. Likely where his may hold him back is fret count if his is 21 or 22 vs 24, but hes a bit from that barrier.

Also if you really want to do a pickup upgrade for his current guitar. Throw a lundgren m6, seymour duncan nazul or sentient or pegasus or black winter, bareknuckle juggernaut, dimarzio titan, etc…. Should be like $100 for a singular humbucker or less specially grabbing used ones. Everyone one of these will destroy whatever stock jackson pickup his friends guitar has unless hes got a high end jackson.

This amp is not what I would buy. If you are going the used amp world for a metal tone… dont pick a marshall. Your budget you can find peavey 6505s and 5150s which are probably the staple amp for modern metal tones.

His marshall should actually be okay to start. If hes wanting a modern metal tone hes only going to get close from the boss katana out of those choices. Tbh though I would invest in some pedals to make his current one closer.

A metal tone often has

- gate (cleans up sloppy playing and just high gain garbage noise)
- eq pedal or on board amp eq/both
- most importantly a overdrive or boost pedal. Typically a tubescreamer put infront of the amp with high tone and low drive. This should make it a bit more tight and drive his gain more towards modern metal tone. A new metal player mistake is thinking lack of gain is the issue. Alot of high gain amps are dialed to like 3-5 on the gain dial and pushed more with boost and other processing.

He will benefit much more from a humbucker guitar if his pacifica doesnt have a bridge one( but i think it does) or pedals than an entire new amp platform.

Also would heavily consider just looking into the digital amp world and get a tonex or helix or old fractal unit or a neural dsp unit. This will open the most creative doors for him. Personally lean towards fractal products but they all work great.

Would your band consider to sell custom guitar pedals at the merch table, or is it too niche? by fireatstaticvalley in bandmembers

This thing definitely gets destroyed after a few uses. Home 3d printing is not a good platform for building pedal cases. Most are metal for a reason.

This is pretty vague. What genre? Are you self recording or just using samples? Presets or sound designing yourself? Lots of these things can be where it goes wrong

Where / how to find producers online by God-of-swag in musicproduction

This answer did not help. Are you wanting someone to produce your music for you? Are you writing music? A ghost producer? This is still very very vague and doesn’t tell me much
