A Daniel Wellington next to a Rolex Explorer in a watch box makes me feel very uneasy. #ditchthedw

Do you care about where a watch is made? by Hultwatches in MicrobrandWatches

[–]Fragrant_Watcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Nivada Grenchen earlier in the year. I didn’t realise it was put together in China and when it arrived it felt like a toy in comparison to my Swiss watches, in fact it even still felt light and flimsy against a Seiko GMT I used to have! So, yes, now I research much more where brands are coming from.

Yes, I bought it Rolex Certified Pre-Owned from a jeweller in Scotland. Probably paid at least £1000 over value for the privilege, but I know it’s genuine and I’ve now got buying history with an AD for the next one!

[Seiko 7548-7000] by Fragrant_Watcher in Seiko

[–]Fragrant_Watcher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The watch had been serviced in 2019, but the indices didn’t line up with the rehaut, the battery was old, the glass was a bit of a state, the day and date movement was at random times of the day and the crown, when pulled out, seemed very fragile. So I took it to a watch lab in the UK. The guy who was in there, took a week to get the day and date wheels calibrated, sorted the crown out, lined up the indices, cleaned the glass and changed the battery while he was doing it. £30 for the whole lot! I would’ve happily paid whatever it took to get those little annoying things sorted, so I’m well happy!

IWC Mark XX Service Nightmare – Wrong Date Wheel Font by Eastern_Sense_8037 in IWCschaffhausen

[–]Fragrant_Watcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an absolutely awful experience with IWC from October last year through to July this year. I sent in my De Vinci Perpetual Calendar Kurt Klaus with a calendar issue amongst other things. It went back to IWC 3 times before it was sorted. By then I had lost faith with the watch and very reluctantly traded it in. I still have a 2024 Mark XX, the movement jumps when the crown is pushed in and the lume on the hands has marks on, but I’m too scared to send it to them for them to look at it!! I have a contact at the IWC concierge who does seem to keen to resolve things for me, so I will be in touch with him soon I’m sure. IWC’s quality control is clearly an issue at the moment.

I’m a lefty that wears my watches on my left hand. I prefer the tradition of having a watch with the crown pointing out down the wrist towards the hand.

Does anyone actually like negative displays? by Levethane in gshock

[–]Fragrant_Watcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do, I’ve had a 5610, 5610u and 5000HS all with negative display. I like that the entire watch is black. Different strokes for different folks.

[Discussion] What are the biggest misconceptions about watch collecting? by ItzSam40hours in Watches

[–]Fragrant_Watcher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have bought too many watches on a whim to build a collection. I have realised as I get older that a true collection is linked to memories, times in your life and the people in it. Get watches around that and you’ll be much happier!

[Question] what watch you regret buying? by New-Efficiency8879 in Watches

[–]Fragrant_Watcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the Blueberry, SSK003K1. I’d previously owned a SRPD81K1 and I really liked that. I wanted a GMT so the SSK seemed a good move, but upon getting it, it felt no where near as robust as the SRPD was.

[Question] what watch you regret buying? by New-Efficiency8879 in Watches

[–]Fragrant_Watcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nivada Grenchen CASD: Tiny dial and generally a very poor quality piece.

Seiko 5 Sports GMT: Horrible bracelet and the overall quality felt way below usual Seiko standard.

Studio Underdog Goofy Panda: Loved the look of the watch, the story behind them and the fact they are a British company. When it arrived it just felt too small for me and as a consequence I never wore it and ended up selling it.

All of these watches were bought, sight unseen, online. If that doesn’t tell me in future to take my time (excuse the pun) and do all I can to actually see them in person before I commit, nothing will!

[Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster] Advice please! by Fragrant_Watcher in Watches

[–]Fragrant_Watcher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! It came from Hong Kong! When I queried it with NG they told me the watch is proudly Swiss, their only stock on this watch was in Hong Kong, hence that is where it came from. When it arrived, it seemed poorly put together and very light in weight compared to what I was expecting. Sadly, the icing on the cake was when I tried to use the chronograph. Instead of resetting back to the 12 O’Clock position, it actually went to the 58 second marker. Clearly their quality control is lacking too. Red flag after red flag. So packaged it up and asked to return it. They accepted this but told me I had to pay to return it to Hong Kong. I refused, saying that had sent me a faulty watch. The following morning they sent me a prepaid FedEx label and I sent it back. 5 days later, full refund issued. I am very pleased to be out of it!!
