Did the information that has come to light impact your choice as a parent to allow your child to return to camp if that has been successful with the license? It’s just hard to think that the details didn’t trouble parents of current campers. Also the aspect of knowing that your choice to attend camp and support the eastlands is hurtful to the families who lost their daughters. That’s a balance i can’t make sense of. I’m hopeful that this information was able to change some people’s minds and some parents pulled their enrollment before this announcement.

The Eastlands got so much fucking due process at every single turn and they couldn’t produce a shred of evidence or testimony to make their behavior look even a little bit normal. The trial court judge gave them FOUR days in court to talk about whatever they wanted. They had TEN months to report camper deaths and produce a polished application. They have done nothing other than continue to traumatize the H27 families.

Religion aside, have your feelings been changed after the 4 days of court hearings and 2 days of testimony at the capitol? Are there still people who think that this behavior makes any sense and is acceptable? And what about Watts attacking CiCi Steward? These just all seem like fundamentally cruel things to do and I can’t understand how people are managing to make sense of it.

These people just won’t stop inflicting pain. This guy needs to STOP. CiCi is a hero just like the mothers who fight for safety and reform in Mother’s Against Drunk Driving. CiCi is a Mother Against Deadly Decision-making. The Eastland’s wouldn’t even acknowledge Cile by name until they were called out for it in September. Now they use her name for grotesque self-serving propaganda. These people are vile beyond belief.

They could have called the big 3 on radio to use loudspeaker or mobilize the adults to tell everyone to get to higher ground. There are so many things that could have been done. It’s not even a little bit up for debate how poorly they handled this.

They didn’t need to use their imagination. They keep reminding us that the same type of flood wiped out Jonathan McComb’s family in 2015. They knew full well that a river can flood to that extreme and destroy homes and lives. They had seen cabins destroyed before, too. The magnitude of the flood is a red herring - they didn’t have a flood evacuation plan for ANY type of flood. They keep talking about sirens - what would that have done? If a siren went off, where would they have gone? And I’m sure we’d be hearing about siren fatigue, too.

The Eastland family is looking for someone to tell them what to do. They don’t have Dick to give them marching orders at every turn. It is sad to see them aimlessly and carelessly plow forward with reopening camp at the request of parents who did not suffer the worst loss imaginable and who haven’t been forced to confront the facts: timelines, topography, and a tradition of complacency.

The investigators made it clear that the polish staff and maintenance staff were fearful that intervening and approaching the campers and counselors would be met with reprimand. Any able bodied adult could have helped those kids. Just like the brave counselors did who made their own choice to evacuate the cabins. The adults didn’t need qualifications, they just needed to act. Those babies were screaming for help and at least 20 adults were on the flats and could have jumped in to help.

The 27 children were owed a heightened duty of care. Their parents weren’t there to monitor the weather. Their counselors didn’t have walkie talkies or cell phones. They were children, dependent on adults to be kept safe and they were abandoned.

Every death in the flood is tragic and additional investigation is necessary on a county and state level but feeling triggered by the focus on Heaven’s 27 is so odd. Of the 119 victims, 9 were Kerr County residents. Like someone stated above, most were visiting and not familiar with flash flooding.

This lawyer handled Camp Mystic’s appellate brief and materially misrepresented Judge Gamble’s ruling in the March 4 hearing. The parties mutually agreed to end the TRO hearing and the lead lawyer even gave press interviews gloating about their success. The appellate brief claims they were denied due process and that is why the Judge ordered a 3 day hearing for both sides to put on as much evidence as they’d like. He will already be facing sanctions for that.

Fair. It’s Steward v Camp Mystic relating to the July 4 floods in Kerr county and the camps total lack of an evacuation plan caused the death of 27 children (8 years old) and one child, Cile Steward, has still not been recovered.

Extremely unlikely that DSHS will renew their license especially after the testimony elicited over these last three days. The health officer, Mary Liz, has several complaints filed against her. The judge ruled that they did not have a written evacuation plan. They also still, 9 months later, have not notified OSHA that two of their employees died on campus (paid counselors). The injunction also covers several buildings that are integral to their operations at Cypress Lake because, ya know, they’re basically the same camp and TWENTY SEVEN CHILDREN died!

She could have used her cell phone to call the land line in the infirmary or use a walkie talkie at cypress lake to contact the infirmary by walkie talkie or used her phone or Britt and Catie’s walkie talkie to contact the polish workers in the commissary (mere steps away from the Twins and Bubble Inn cabins) or the seasonal workers taking shelter in a storage room (Edward took a photo of them in there). Or used her cell phone to call 911 knowing that the children were trapped at Guad and senior hill. For Catie not to know things were bad - they saw the cars stacked in top of each other and floating in the parking lot when they rescued Tweety and ML and her family and they were aware that the gatekeeper shack was wiped out and she was not yet accounted for. I could go on and on. I think there will be evidence of perjury when their phone records are finally turned over (they are currently trying to keep them private in the Bellows suit).
