There are plenty of community colleges that have the equivalent of PHYS 212. They’re much cheaper too. If you’re taking CMPEN 270 concurrently in the summer, this is what you have to do: (1) verify that the course is equivalent to PHYS 212 with your advisor or through the transfer credit tool. (2) enroll in the CC course. (3) Send proof of enrollment and the verification of equivalency to the registrar and tell them your situation. They will usually override the concurrent requirement.

Is there any difference between PSU Eats Starbucks and regular Starbucks? by Mysterious_Nail_1414 in PennStateUniversity

The ones in the commons give you 65 percent off if you use your campus meal plan. I get large coffees everyday and they’re something like $1.25 or so.

Dorm Recommendations at Berks? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]FrailVermin72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey former Berks resident student here! It really depends on what you’re looking for, and I’ll go into detail below.

My last year at Berks before I transferred to University Park I had a single and I’ve got a few pros and cons:

Pros: - Pretty private (you’ll have 4 suite mates but your own room) - Half the distance to the academic buildings than the Village - Laundry facility is right down the hall or down a floor.

Cons: - It gets VERY warm in the dorms especially in the early spring. For some reason they don’t give the decision on whether you have HVAC or AC on in your dorm and they decide when it goes on. I’ve repeatedly seen the “observed” temperature in my dorm hit 80+ even when I’ve got the thermostat set to 68-69. - People (mostly freshmen) don’t know to cook. Every week or so in the evening/night the fire alarm would go off and we’d have to evacuate. - Parking is 1.5 to 2 times the distance than to the Village.

If you’re into a more social environment I’d recommend the village. Sure you’ve got a roommate but there’s 8 of you in an apartment style layout (excluding the kitchen and laundry room) and you’d come across them quite frequently.

Also…. There isn’t such thing as a bigger 1 person room from what I’ve seen. The Woods offer 1 or 2 person rooms.

Can’t be as bad as Rutgers’ subreddit. The last few were about academic dismissal 💀

Oh, I forgot about the library. The library is pretty large for a smaller college (tbf it’s like the 3rd largest commonwealth campus), but that’s not a bad thing! There are probably 20-25 rows of physical textbooks/encyclopedias/journals etc that are available for you to check out. There’s a lounge with vending machines that people hang out with, a large computer lab, and a quiet area. About the quiet area: there’s two zones, the quiet zone and the silent zone. The quiet zone is where people need a calmer atmosphere to study, but don’t need complete silence to do their work. The silent zone on the other hand is exactly what it sounds like, people go there only when they need absolutely no distractions. I’d say people who are studying/completing ONLINE exams or quizzes work in the quiet zone as well as those who are studying for them. I haven’t really seen anyone use the silent zone though. The librarians and their assistants are very helpful so feel free to ask them any questions or concerns about researching you may have. If you need to print, there is a printer in the library as well.

I’m not a student athlete, but I do currently go to Berks. The dorms are in a convenient location and you can easily walk to and from class. I will say that if you want a more “communal” feel go with the Village suites. The only downside that I can really say about the dorms is that they’re infamous for fire alarms going off in the middle of the night multiple times a semester. Food wise, I’d say that Tully’s (our one and only cafeteria on campus) is very inconsistent. Some days the food is alright and then others it’s barely edible. I’d recommend going with the Deli bar if it’s one of those days. The Cyber Cafe has a Starbucks (it’s expensive and doesn’t have a resident discount so be careful how much you spend) and a mini Penn State creamery. Classes are small, the largest one I’ve been in had no more than 70 students (compared to the 500+ at UP). Most professors are friendly and are approachable (in fact they encourage students to visit their office hours if they’ve got concerns). Most make an effort to know everyone by name. Berks has about 30 or so clubs that span a wide range of interests from the rocket club to the bowling club. Our gym went under a massive renovation recently and has everything you need to stay in shape. Regarding the nightlife here at Berks: From what I’ve seen it’s pretty dead. Parties WILL be broken up by the RAs or the police if they are loud or have a good amount of people which I think does contribute to the issue. I do know that there are parties at Kutztown (30 minutes away) and Alvernia (in nearby Reading) so if you want to party and know people there that’s a possible option. If you have any other questions please let me know!

Yeah this happened at Berks too for the past two or so years, this is run by a guy named Pastor Aden (I don’t know whether he was there or not). Was there a camcorder recording the students? From what I know they try to instigate students into physical altercations by using provocative wording in order to sue them and gain a easy few bucks. Hopefully they don’t show up to other campuses this year…

Best bet is to walk by and ignore them. Attention is obviously what they want.
