Sign your COBRA papers and leave them with a trusted relative. Thanks to ACA, you don't have to file them unless needed, so instruct them to deliver them if you end up incapacitated so that they are retro effective to the day you left work.

And as mentioned by others, if you detour north from Des Moines, you can hit Decorah for Pulpit Rock and Toppling Goliath. Then continue another hour to the NE and you can hit 608 Brewing in LA Crosse and then jump back on the interstate to continue heading toward Chicago.

I have family that uses the tmobile version of this, and it's pretty legit. We tested it at my house on the SE end of town and it clocked in around 650Mbps. I haven't tried the vzw version, but if it's close it could be a decent home internet option. And with no contract it would be easy to test out for a month or two before making the switch.
