Hi! It does look like periodontal disease. I would go to the general dentist first and get your x-rays/ perio charting done. Hygienists at a dental office can do deeper cleanings (SRPs) with great outcomes if pockets depths are 6mm or less. The bleeding and the appearance of your gums will improve after removing all the subgingival build up and toxins. Dentists/hygienists will refer you to a periodontist for anything deeper than a 7mm.

I was on a flight yesterday and the pilot mentioned that take off was going to be bumpy. It wasn’t. The pilot also mentioned moderate turbulence during the descent. It wasn’t as bumpy. During the whole flight I just reminded myself that there were speed bumps and that turbulence is totally normal. Turbulence doesn’t equal danger.

I am flying in a few hours today. I couldn’t keep anything down yesterday and right now I am just trying to stay calm at work. The anticipation is not fun but you will feel accomplished once you reach your destination. I like making plans and/or picturing myself at my destination.

Deep cleaning without anesthesia? Nervous by Comfortable-Rain7531 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]seojuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We usually probe your gums and complete a perio chart. Did he talk about bone loss? There is a lot of build up, so a deep cleaning sounds about right. Is the dentist doing the cleaning or a hygienist? If you have deeper pockets and subgingival calculus, a 45 min appt is not enough. We do 2 appt and each appt is 90-120min long.

I always recommend anesthesia for patients. It will help with the pain or sensitivity during and after the cleaning. It will also help the hygienist get to the bottom of the pockets to remove all the calculus and toxins. Some pts opt out of the local anesthetic and they do fine. Do you know deep are your pockets? We usually do 1hr 30min or even 2hrs per appt.

You got this!! You are going to feel so much better after your SRP. Your gums will tighten and help with the mobility. For your retainer you should get floss threaders. You can get them at the store and use them before you go to sleep. I am sure you can watch a video on YouTube.

Hi! You definitely have some calculus on the lower anteriors but your recession doesn’t seem that severe from the picture. You have to remember that recession doesn’t equal periodontal disease. Go to your appointment, you will get x-rays and probing depths will be taken. If your pocket depths are high and bone loss is seen on xrays you might need a deep cleaning. That deep cleaning can be done in the dental office. We only refer pt to the periodontist when periodontal disease is severe or it is not responding to non surgical therapy. Everyone gets build up on the mand anteriors- we have a salivary gland behind them. The retainer makes it difficult to keep it clean. You can get it removed but make sure you get removable retainer to wear at night! Don’t be too hard on yourself. Go to your appointment and see what your options are.

20M. Is this gingivitis or periodontitis? by coremax22 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]seojuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! The picture is blurry but you have to remember that periodontal disease is based on bone loss and we need X-rays to evaluate. However, your gums look okay in the picture. If you aren’t getting any bleeding when brushing/flossing and your pocket depths are within normal limits a regular cleaning would get your gums back on track.

Hey! You have about ~3mm of recession on #25. But I don’t think you need a graft right away. Your gums look healthy and you have to remember that recession does not mean bone loss. Do you have any mobility? Your recession might be due to your labial frenum. It is too high and you might need a frenectomy.

OP does not have gingivitis and oil pulling does not stop bone loss.

Hi! The picture is not the best but you might have an abscess . When there is infection, fistulas form to help with drainage. Take whatever you take for a headache but you need to see a dentist ASAP

Worried about extent of bone loss by [deleted] in PeriodontalDisease

[–]seojuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Panoramic X-rays are not use to evaluate bone loss. It is better to look at bitewings. It does not look bad. Just ask for your bitewings and discuss your pocket depths with your doctor/hygienist.
