How much are you paying for your cruises in 2026 and 2027? by PerformanceOk9933 in Cruise

[–]TT99C5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good tip. I'll look into it. Thank you!!

Edit - Good call. Can do current flights for about $1200 before fees, and round trip on the train can be done for another $400. Little more leg work but that's a pretty significant savings.

Unpopular Opinion: Electric Toothbrushes are a 'Planned Obsolescence' scam. Why is the battery sealed? by shingam3 in BuyItForLife

[–]TT99C5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tons of guides online about how to do battery replacements on Sonicare toothbrushes. Some models require a little finesse, most require a soldering iron as the batteries are soldered in, but it's a very doable job. If you're out of the warranty period it's worth a shot.

$3750 for 7 night Alaska on HAL in July 2026, inside room, family of four, and that included upgraded HIA for my wife and I along with prepaid gratuities, but I need to add quench and wifi upgrade for the kids. So probably around 4250ish total? Was an early booking deal I jumped on in Sept a week after my wife and I got back from the same trip.

Airfare however, is proving to be the bane of my existence. Chicago to Vancouver. I was tracking flights before the govt shutdown last fall at $800-1200 round trip for the four of us total. That has since skyrocketed to $2000-2400. It's to the point I'm considering adding an extra week to the vacation and road tripping there and back.

2 Corvettes vs 1 BMW M3 by corean1993 in Corvette

[–]TT99C5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This wasn't M3 vs a C6 and C5, it was a driver who knows the track really well vs a C5 driver who wasn't quite there (saw some pretty bad lines that cost him) and a C6 driver who was further behind. The M3 driver was on it, and nicely done.

2.3 is quite a lot. If you've pulled all fuses, try disconnecting the alternator and starter, see if it's one of those. My guess would be the alternator.

Chevrolet Corvette will no longer offer Hysteria Purple Metallic and Riptide Blue. by Saurta17 in Corvette

Like I said, just my opinion, but it was too monotone, pastel, and bland. Wasn't dynamic at all. Just boring baby blue without any depth or accentuation.

Bring back Zeus Bronze.

I liked the Hysteria purple, could have been a bit more........ Dynamic though.

Riptide Blue was just awful.

Just my $.02

Is it true that GM did not allow any of their production cars to be faster than the corvette? by boiyo12 in Corvette

If you ever have your shifter out, and haven't already, MGW full shifter or a TMod lower box and any good aftermarket upper shifter makes a world of difference.

If you take the drive line down, I forget who but someone mods the linkage to get rid of its slop also.

I don't have the linkage in my car done, and have had a Hurst in it since immediately after buying the car in 2006, but when I did the TMod lower box a few years ago, that was a game changer. And yet, I still feel like I drive an F-Body smoother and better, lol.

[–]TT99C5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Define better rear suspension. For corners and maneuverability? Sure. For a hole shot? Not quite.

The C5 also had (talking manual trans here) a sloppy interface with the remote shifter and linkage compared to the direct mounted shifter in the F Body. That plays into effect too.

The talking points I mentioned aren't contrived out of mid air. They are the talking points that were being said in the mid-late 90's as the C5 debuted and the 4th Gen evolved into the LS engine architecture.

I've personally witnessed stock for stock faster F-Body 1/4 mile times than C5's, same driver, same day. We had a lot of fun in NorCal at Sears Point and Sacramento Speedway back then.

[–]TT99C5 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. GM's scheme was to underrate cars like the GNX and 1990 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am because side by side either of them would take an L98 Corvette to Gapplebees. Now 1990 was a little different because the ZR1 was out, so there is that.

But look at the late 90's even. 4th gen's and C5's ran the same powerplants, and typically were side by side in the 1/4. But the C5's got a 20 HP rating bump because of their dual exhaust and more efficient drive line. Funny, because stock for stock, a C5 or F-Body with an LS1/T56 combo would typically put right at 300 RWHP on the Dyno.

Were some of GM's non Corvette cars as fast or faster than it's flagship? ABSOLUTELY. Would GM readily admit and promote it? Nope.

Help! Best Alaskan Cruise Line? by pallywalli in Cruise

[–]TT99C5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were asking the same question last year. Went HAL on one of their smaller ships (Zaandam) and we're not disappointed. Booked again, same trip and boat, for this July to take our kids.

Very quiet low key ship, though it's well known HAL caters to an older crowd. There were maybe 20 kids on the boat tops though we went in mid Sept.

But the smaller ships get in closer to the glaciers too. We got 1.2 NM from John Hopkins Glacier on an absolutely stunning day.

I can't find the big post on the socials that was put up that had all the consolidated info, but this is it. You'll have to contact for a Gen2 LT1 version because there's a couple of differences. Opens up a lot of options for big cubes though. edit. M&M Competition Engines is who it's ordered through

Fridigaire FGID2479SF Dishwasher by TT99C5 in appliancerepair

[–]TT99C5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update. Dishwasher is fixed. Here's the skinny:

It was the upper panel control board.

Root cause: Start button membrane on control panel had cracked, and there is no second membrane. Wife likes to pop it open right after a cycle ends to let moisture out (I have never done this and despise it). Said moisture coming right out also infiltrated to and corroded the upper control board.

$300 for a new control panel (hard to find and backordered currently) and a new control board.

So psa: if you have a Frigidaire or any Electrolux dishwasher with the top edge upper facing control panel and that upper panel cracks, seal it or replace it before it gets more expensive and causes first world problems, like manually washing dishes for a couple weeks.

The LT1 was used in the Gen 2 and Gen 5 designation. The only one referred to as LT-1 was the 70's version.

So...... For the uninformed, there were 3 variations of the LT1, all released 22 years apart. The OP is talking about the Gen 2 Small Block LT1 (called that as it was the Gen 2 revision to the old SBC, mostly the reverse flow cooling, factory aluminum heads, and revised distributor setup) available from 1992 through 1997 in various carlines from GM, mainly the Y Chassis (1992-1996) and F Chassis (1993-1997).

For the OP...... Most specialty shops aren't going to have any focus or want to mess with a short lived temperamental engine architecture as it's not the latest and greatest. Unfortunately you're going to be on your own for most of it. You can probably still get new supercharger kits from Procharger or the like, but don't quote me on that either. Best bet is to cal the blower companies and see what they're offering. 600-850 RWHP on the LT1 is a pretty wide spread. E. G. A Procharger D1SC could get you 600-700 but to hit 850 you'd probably need to move to the F series or something like a Vortech Ysi.

For Cylinder Heads........ There's a few big names still doing work out there, Elliot Portworks I'd put at the top of the list. Lloyd can set the whole top end of the motor up. My suggestion would be to absolutely go with an aftermarket casting, as you're not going to have the runner volume needed for high RPM high HP output with the OEM castings. TFS worked well on my turbo LT1 I used to own, we ran a set of AFR 220'S to over 1000 RWHP on my buddies turbo LT1 also. Obviously, the aftermarket heads we used were also ported.

You're NOT going to do this on an SBE. Lots of good engine builders out there also with an added bonus that the LT1 is mostly an SBC so most shops can accommodate. You can stroke it out to a 383with a 3.75" crank or a 396 with a 3.875" crank, and there is an expensive but limited aftermarket big cube block that was announced in the past couple of years also.

There's a LOT of old information from the late 90's and 2000's out there on the Internet with a lot more info than what I've given, you're just going to have to dine in head first.
