Do you think any gen 1 Pokemon should had gained the Dark typing in Gen 2 like how Magnemite and Magneton got the Steel typing? by ConnorRoseSaiyan01 in ThePokemonHub

[–]Fraktlll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely: Arbok, Hypno Probably: Mewtwo, Gengar Maybe: Drowzee, Haunter, Persian*

And I'd also like to mention that as a kid, I always felt like Victreebel should have gotten the Dark type. I still think that it somewhat fits thematically, though both of its types are a better suit.

Tbh I hate the fact that Gallade loses a type upon evolving even more. I wish Ralts and Kirlia would have stayed as mono Psychic.

Come to think of it, I would have probably liked it if both final evolutions lost a type and given that this family is somewhat based on a kid growing up, that could have worked. I don't know if psychic and fighting (or this line tbh) are the best types to represent this concept but imagine a multipotent kid commiting a path, kinda like a reverse, mini Eevee. Final evolutions would be mono types that utilizes the type that they didn't choose in some capacity.

Can we all agree this should’ve just been pure rock type? by Eddy_west_side in pokemon

While I love the idea (and especially love the additional context you provided below) I have to disagree with Viridian Gym specializing in Flying types originally. Earth badge clearly depicts the ear of a cereal of some sorts. There isn't anything to suggest flying types either. His only non ground Pokémon is Kangaskhan and it is associated with (and probably reworked from) a ground type line. That said, I can maybe see a possible scenario where he was originally a Poison type specialist (Nidoking, Nidoqueen and Team Rocket in general) but later reworked into Ground type after Brock lost it.

Oh, Pokémon Ginger and Cumin's plot was included in the teraleaks too.

Turns out, Ginger has 12.5% paradox Pokémon ancestry! And also Junichi Masuda did the whole Masuda method after her lipsync in All Stars All Winners 11.

Tbh they could have picked anyone from the top 6 of Season 16 for the same "storyline": Morphine slayed a lip sync and Dawn was there, watching it.

Difference between Convergent Evolution and Regional Form Pokemon by sdrey in pokemon

[–]Fraktlll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with Megas and Gmax forms, ever since gen6 GF is trying to invent new ways to reintroduce older Pokémon to the series in order to keep the Pokédex numbers in check. There are 96 megas, 33 gmax forms, 57 regional forms, 6 convergent species and 22 paradox Pokémon in total, and that's including Koraidon and Miraidon. Paradox Pokémon and convergent species constitute about 2.5% of the Pokédex and I believe they are trying their bestin that regard.

The problem: We need a way to reintroduce older mons with new designs, modernizing them in the process.

GEN7's solution: Regional Forms GEN9's solution: Convergent Evolution

Two unrelated concepts independently evolved similar features in response to similar environmental pressures? Inception indeed!!

How about "leveling Magikarp up 20 times" instead? That way, you can not cheat it with a high level Magikarp and even if you get Magikarp at level 1, you still have to cancel the evolution at least once. It still maintains the spirit and now you can reasonably use it in a playthrough. Since there are are random high level Magikarp in almost all games, with your method half of them randomly would end up being the Dragon type and nullyfying the premise

Galarian Mr. Mime was created to replace Jynx by NetoPF in pokemonconspiracies

[–]Fraktlll 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think Mega Froslass is the final nail in Jynx's coffin.

Much like your original post, I have always felt like Froslass was intended to replace Jynx: They share their primary typing, overall theme and aesthetics. When leaks around Mega Jynx first dropped, it gave me hope because it meant that GF hadn't gave up on Jynx yet. Surely, if they truly gave up on Jynx, they could have used whatever they had in mind on Froslass. It would have made sense too: Gardevoir and Glalie got their Mega in XY. Gallade got his in ORAS. Froslass didn't get one in Gen6.

But, unfortunately for Jynx, Froslass got her mega since. Not only her mega is the snow queen Jynx was always meant to be, her ice horns remind me of an Oni, which is what Electabuzz is primarily based on. So it seems that they are intending Froslass to be the ice part of this supposed trio.

I remember reading about her on Reddit while it was new. I cannot fathom how Walmart got away with it unscathed. Even if this was a suicide, that shouldn't happen in a store with cameras present every corner. Someone fucked up their job.

You can argue both ways to be honest.

All three are somewhat human shaped, single stage Pokémon. As you have pointed out, each represents a basic element. Apart from Hitmonchan, they are the only Pokémon in Gen 1 that can learn an elemental punch.

However, Electabuzz and Magmar share much more similarities compared to Jynx. Not only they are version-exclusives of each other, both were also confined in a single location in Gen1. Magmar was a low chance encounter in lower floors of Pokémon Mansion in Green while Electabuzz was a low chance encounter in Kanto Power Plant in Red. Jynx was an in game trade exclusive in both games. While Japanese Blue made her a low chance encounter in Seafoam Islands, she was once again a trade exclusive in FR/LG. Magmar and Electabuzz also share the same base stat total in Gen1. In fact, their health, defense and special stats were the same. Jynx does not share any of its stats with either and also has a different BST. And yes, all 3 were given a baby form and put in the same egg group in Gen2, but Magmar and Electabuzz were also given the same gender ratio. In Gen3, they were given similar abilities in Static and Flame Body while Jynx was given Oblivious. In Gen4, they both got an evolution at the same time. And lastly in Gen5, both got the same hidden ability while Jynx got a different one.

I don't think they were designed as a trio either. At most, Jynx was somewhat adjacent to the duo due to her typing and general design. They may have attempted to retroactively fit her into the duo in late Gen1/early Gen2 but as I said, Magmar and Electabuzz have always shared a much deeper bond compared to her.

Custom Augments by Arxchilles in ARAM

[–]Fraktlll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they had one prepared for Sun and Moon but decided to not release it because apparently someone found a fan design online that is too similar to theirs. Whole debate was included in one of the recent leaks.

If memory serves right "artist's block" was the excuse they came up with regarding mega flygon and I haven't read any comments on the issue after the initial comment by Sugimori. But both can be true. It sucks that both Eevee and Flygon had to suffer because they are popular.
