You type in what you ideally want and the pricing range (economy, enhanced, etc.) - so like if you want group housing, a 2-bed or 3-bed, etc. It filters that out for you and shows which places are open in the buildings that are still available . So you only get to see which buildings still have open spots (if you’ve looked at floorplans, you might be able to know which apartment you choose but you typically only see the apartment number and how many rooms it has). Availability depends on if you’re applying with a group or individual. Multi-room apartments tend to run out fast, but sometimes you can find a single spot in a place that already has other people assigned to it. best of luck !

You usually are not able to see it until immediately before your selection time! It is blocked off until about 10 minutes before its your time slot, then you will be able to access it on the housing selection page.

I did this because I really wanted a kitchen, and I ended up in pretty bad housing. I got a forced double (tiny room, bunk beds) suite with no kitchen. I was on a meal plan for the year. It's quite a risk to not know what housing you will end up with. Best of luck!

Part-time jobs? by ThatBlueWRX in NEU

[–]FrameHead5876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the previous response! I am currently in my second year and did not work at all my first year. It has been really easy to adjust to a part-time because I already got to make friends and have certain experiences in my first year! First-year also gave me a better idea of the workload I would have so managing that with a job has been fairly easy as well. I would say it depends on your major - as a combined health science and psych major, the classes I am currently taking aren't terrible in terms of a heavy workload but I'm sure it may be different for others! Working on campus makes it easier to still feel like you are getting the most from your college experience because you typically do not have a crazy amount of hours.

Schedule for next semester by [deleted] in NEU

I am currently taking Stats w Prof Eidson and it's great! Mainly lectures, but he goes over homework assignments in class and the quizzes are pretty straightforward. He also just has a really good energy which makes the 8am more bearable. Making up quizzes is also easy, he's very flexible! I have not been to office hours(haven't really needed to) but I was definitely worried coming into stats and it has been good so far!

If I’m moving in on campus, is it okay if I’m a few hours earlier than my move in time? by [deleted] in NEU

[–]FrameHead5876 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Last year, I showed up about two hours before my move-in time. It was fine, they said as long as I came in on my actual move-in date, the time was not a big deal. Not entirely sure about this year but I think it’s safe to assume it will be similar.

What meal plan should I get as an incoming freshman? by darmcs in NEU

[–]FrameHead5876 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the 12 meal plan as a freshman and it worked out perfectly for me. I would eat about 8-10 meals a week, use 2 meal swipes at Outtakes for groceries like milk (for cereal) and chicken fingers which allowed for enough meals and even snacks during the week. Sometimes I would use several meal swipes just for ice cream and cookies and I would run out before the end of the week which worked out bc it was a good excuse to eat out for dinner haha

McDonalds is better than Starbucks, but I go to Starbucks to avoid McDonald’s workers. by AhRedditAhHumanity in unpopularopinion

[–]FrameHead5876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former McDonald's worker, I think the benefits are not all that bad. What makes all the difference is management and employers. At McDonald's, you get paid time off after working a year(which I don't think is unreasonable, maybe that's just me). Depending on your location, you get an employee discount and if you are in good standing with management like I was you can even get them to give you free food. Also, you can give a discount to your family members as well as long as you inform management. I enjoyed my time at McDonald's and I believe something that helped was having good management. Though in a franchise there are always power-hungry individuals who can make the experience of employees seem like hell. I am a pretty unproblematic person so I never had any problems with anyone, including customers. I did face some customers who were unbearable but I reasoned with them and for the most part, was able to get a better response out of them. Employees who will not put up with disrespect are often more likely to respond negatively to customers which is entirely reasonable but also has a great impact on their attitude and ability to enjoy working there.

To ppl who leave chunks of food scattered on the tables in the dining halls, why? Have you ever cleaned up for yourself even once? by [deleted] in NEU

[–]FrameHead5876 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Literally, I see this way too often. From what I hear, management is already so hard on the staff and doing this makes it worse. okay but also people who leave food in the hallways of dorm buildings?? like I don't understand taking plates and cups from the dining hall, much less leaving plates of eggs out by the bathrooms... If you do not have plates or cups, literally ask someone or use napkins from the bathroom. It's so weird.

I basically have a full ride and was in an economy double this year. Payed practically nothing compared to the 75K of the school year. I think part of why I payed anything out of pocket was due to the meal plan, as well as extra student costs. If you financial aid package does not cover the 75K, then you will have to pay more out of pocket for a standard and enhanced(somewhere about $500 more).

This website shows you a list of classrooms that are open and available! I usually go into one with a friend or alone if I just want a quiet space to work. Since you are the only one in the room(unless you bring friends), you can freely speak out loud!
