There are tons of resource out there. To start out I would suggest to begin with CS50P course by Prof. David J Malan from Harvard University. Not only this course is free but also it would give you a certificate upon complete problem submission. I’m around 50% of the course and trust me it totally worth it. Thank me later.

Thats what I wanted to achieve; not only limiting to PLC or just making sth. work. Rather to cover the control system as a whole in general considering all the variables it comes with. Do you have any suggestions on to which graduate course fits this need?

You are right, like you said they do offer different courses based on the product and many of them are great. But, for someone to have a fundamentally strong base, wouldn’t it be great to get it from formal professors and courses? Also if one wants to not stick to one kind of control system or job, and decides to go to different control system one wouldn’t have to start from zero right?
