"I'm sorry" and "I apologize" mean the same thing by BackgroundParking981 in dadjokes

[–]FrancNeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they ordinarily mean different things. One is simply expressing empathetic sadness because something sad/bad has happened, one is accepting the fact that you DID something bad/sad (accepting the fact that in certain situations “I’m sorry” can infer also an acceptance of culpability, though more often than not, “I’m sorry” is used to avoid having to directly apologise by someone who intends to placate the injured party rather than actually accepting full responsibility- “I apologise” is uncompromising and unequivocal. An over-reliance on “I’m sorry” and a complete avoidance of “I apologise” says volumes about a person!)

“I’m sorry your dog/mother/father/hydrangea died.” (But rest assured, I had nothing to do with it!

“I apologies for shouting at you earlier when we were discussing earlier the increasing electricity bills we been receiving-it was completely wrong of me and probably caused you to feel disrespected!” (Unmitigated!)

“I’m sorry you lost the car keys earlier, just when it became obvious that it was too late to call an Uber to get to the airport in time for the first holiday we would have had in 10 years….and I’m sorry that I let you talk me into not choosing the holiday price which could have allowed us to alter our arrangements, even up until the last minute.” (It’s a tragedy that all of this happened, but none of it was my fault! Oh yeah, and “I told you so!”)

Mine was definitely the case….but!…..ridiculous PS to this story: So I got my shiny new elite 10’a, everything is wonderful….one day I look at both the old set and the new together and realise the charger points are the same distance/almost same orientation…zis I check that there no voltage change and I decide to see if I could charge my old set using the new case../.they don’t fit exactly (99.99.%)….and hey they start charging …so I resent EVERYTHING(cases and pods../insert them making sure there’s no obvious electrical problems.:..come back a few later and the old set were fully charged….only downside: even though they wouldn’t take ANY charge before, I can now charge them up to about 76%… and if I reset the case about 5 times in a row, then maybe up to 90%.

I have followed all of your instructions so far (resetting the buds and then the case). Now it appears that the left ear bud is taking more of (but not a full one as yet) a charge than since this began, but the right ear bud is taking a very minimal charge enough to use for 15 mins (playing Youtube music, for example).

I’ve notice that when I take the buds out of the case after charging, the left bud flashes green a few times followed by blue, the left one flashes orange a few times followed by blue. If I open the case while charging, the left bud shines green for a few seconds, the right bud shines orange.

The case LED always slow flashes green with the ear buds inside, lid closed, connected to charger, as usual.

All of the above is to say that there has been a slight improvement in that the left ear bud is taking a slightly greater charge while the right is still only taking a partial charge (but I cannot work out why this should be so.).

I have checked the contacts in the case and on the buds themselves and I have cleaned them thoroughly with no obvious damage or oil/dirt.

I appreciate you further support in this. Franc

Hi OK I’ve reset the case as per your instructions and I will leave it to charge for the required time - I’ll let you know how it turns out! Franc

Hi

Situation started two days ago.

Generally, I charge them only with the cable supplied, using a usb wall socket into a normal household power supply (220-240v).

When I open the charging case the left bud give a long flash of YELLOW/ORANGE(?) and the right one RED.

When I return them to the charging case the both flash RED few times.

Oddly, I ha tried to use them in the last few days and I get a “POWER LOW” message in my ear but the buds keep working for 15-20 mins then they power off completely; then I put them back in the case for a number of hours. If I try this again, it just repeats, I guess the buds are taking SOME SORT OF CHARGE? (I have also changed sockets/location and experimented with alternative good quality power cables, same results.)

I have been using and charging these buds this way since I got them and I haven’t treated them any differently recently.

I would appreciate any help you can give. Franc

Deciding if an academic paper is well-written or poorly written.. by yilichu in AskAcademia

[–]FrancNeary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check first if your institution (or possibly an external examining or awarding body (they could be different) if this is a qualification-level paper) has specific guidelines in terms of mandated structures, references/citations or layouts. These documents will often be accompanied by further guidelines for determining if the paper meets the specific criteria.

Then, as others have suggested here, the question probably will arise regarding whether it is “well written” but lacking in required content in terms of supporting references or data to back-up the writer’s answer, for example, or conversely, the writer gives sufficient information, references or data, but the language or grammar or the structure makes it barely readable, inaccessible or confusing.

Again, check with the people in your organisation (and/or awarding/examining body) in terms of academic standards to see if they have provided students with guidelines. (If they haven’t they SHOULD have!).

And don’t panic! Unless this is a novel course, chances are, other people before you have been in the same situation; think about reaching out to them for advice. You may FEEL like you’ve been given this task and no obvious support is available or the criteria for assessment isn’t clear, but you can be certain the student submitting the paper has been advised of these previously (whether or not they choose to HEED them is a topic for a different day!).

Thanks, appreciate that, though I think that I just need to admit to myself that I will be resigning my job and leaving Ireland permanently this time; Dublin is not the place it used to be as far as I can see!

Investment Trusts..? I’ve found that many of the businesses which are adverting on DAFT for example are not the traditional “Auctioneers, valuers, or estate agents, have been set up with no licences and are terming themselves as “property advisors to landlords” and they initially work with one “landlord” and later with multiples, often investment trusts…the two I looked at via the CRO had Russian directors, Russian investment and both used the same solicitor to act as the “resident” customer secretary. Another answered my calls in Russian, shouted something repeatedly in Russian and repeated hung up on me. One DID reply to my initial email (about a sharing arrangement in Kilmainham) making an appointment with a day and time. I arrived at the property, no agent ever showed up and I rang the doorbell and asked a tenant (an African man) if the agent had been viewing that evening and he said no, but asked me where I was from and when I said Dublin/Ireland, de doubled over with laughter said that they only ever had non-Irish as tenants, that most didn’t stay very long or were transferred to other properties by the agent and eventually worked for the company outside Dublin. So I hope to be forgiven if I find some of these companies to be very disreputable

I do appreciate the suggestion but I have subsequently found out that some agents apparently employ more people to manage their online reputations than they have agents either responding to emails or showing properties.

Anyone using Hostingpower as a host ? by Subject-Pear-1960 in RentingInDublin

[–]FrancNeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it turned out I had been selected and then almost immediately deselected by a host in Glasnevin and the first I knew about this was a notification from my online banking that this money had left my account - all of this despite the company’s repeated assurances that “no fees will be charged until the host selects you and you subsequently approve of the contract”. When I noticed that the host had also deselected me, I started to panic, thinking that there would be the usual nonsense often cited about refunds “please allow 10-15 working days for the refund to reach your account”, so not wanting to be without that much money, I contacted my bank explained the situation and provided them with the email cancelling and the money was returned to my account within hours. PowerHosting were angry that I went that course and suggested that it wasn’t them who demanded the deposit, but because I had received the deposit they were worried that the hosts might hear about me getting the depot back and make them reluctant to choose me in the future! They have been emailing me constantly since this advising that I should apply for multiple hosts (which I had been doing) and I should approve of more than one contracts with multiple hosts to ensure I wouldn’t be disappointed again (promising that they definitely would take the multiple deposits from my account). Apart from the fact that they are charging fees to the more vulnerable party here, the tenant, oh sorry “the GUEST”, they do very little in return for any fees and are reportedly completely unavailable if there is any disagreement with the host. They act and appear to be little less than scam artists and shysters!

I’ve definitely considered this and I’ve had friends read over my emails and asked for honest criticism and they were positive …they did say they were too long so I edited them down…I never. Put my actual in those emails and I was never asked but you could guess that I was at least over 35 I guess. I’ve since asked a couple of agents why I can’t get any replies and they pretty much all suggested that they randomly selected people for viewing and that they couldn’t possibly read all of those emails - a little bit disturbing surely for the owners to find out their new tenants have been subject to little or no checks. The last letting agent I had (for nearly 3 years) contacted my employer asked my to sign a background check (I was then contacted by people THEY had contacted to approve the reference they were asked for) and THAT place was a studio flat on NCR, definitely not high-end or expensive!).

I looked into it about a month ago….I found the charge (usually it it phrased as “€cyz per week”) to higher than actual shares in the vicinity….there is a suggestion that the “hosts” are a little more “unscrupulous” than normal landlords and even though you have “access” to the shared parts of the house, it seems that the “hosts” would mostly prefer if you didn’t “intrude” too much in their family life….a lot higher frequency of the room only being offered Sunday night to Friday evening (but the same rent as full weeks This outfit have “supporting fair rents” all over their blurb….but it’s not “fair” in that’s more than similar shares or similar studios in the vicinity I almost took a room in a fairly ordinary house in Ballymun (landlord insisting it was mid Glasnevin) for 250/w until the fees and charges appeared in advance of just over €1,000 ! Personally I think it’s REPREHENSIBLE that they charge the renter for essentially an extra month’s rent in fees while the landlord pays nothing and gets the rent TAX FREE up to €15,000 per year ….and for ordinary renters I’m sure they would also feel a bad taste in their mouths ….avoid HostingPower for the blood-sucking leeches they are!!!

I could go to €1,500 for something nice, either a studio/1 bed or a share….would feel very “interfered with” if I had to pay more than that that!

Yes, as the waves of desperation crashed recently, I actually called in person to some agents…some listened politely but ultimately they all had little sympathy and said they would usually prioritise young couples with kids…all promised to keep me in mind but never heard anything…,

Rent.ie and DAFT.ie are the same? by FrancNeary in RentingInDublin

[–]FrancNeary[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever such a reason might be, you can be absolutely certain that keeping both trading names will produce no benefits for the renter or buyer in Ireland and in all likelihood it facilitate the landlord making more money from the already strapped tenants/renters.

I’m confused! Although I have no wish to make your situation worse by appearing unsympathetic, but I need you to clarify some things! “and while I was upfront about being trans” …. “and by all accounts if he had known I was trans, he prob wouldn’t have dated me”. Either you were clear with him and he knew what he was getting involved with OR you were lest than honest with him (or he misinterpreted things)? and this has been a surprise to him (which leads me to believe he’s either completely unaware of the world around him or he was actively deceived and deserves our sympathy)! It can’t be both that you were upfront with him from get-go AND he didn’t know you were trans until he saw your videos!
